Carrera RS CO2 bottle refill?

I have secured this bottle for my RS, empty.
Has anyone ever tried to refill these? I *think* that some vintage VWs came with these.
any insight welcome.

Industrial gas suppliers should eb able to fill most bottles. BOC Gas is one that comes to mind. HTere are others I have used, but they have been for labratory grade gas. Look in the welding section on your yellow pages.

This is the first I have seen this bottle. I didn't know they existed, and have thought of making my own for emergency tire inflation (that is what the bottle is for right?). Is there a part number for this bottle?

Forgive my ignorance but what is it for? It looks like a fire extinguisher, if so the following is probably irrelevant.

Match air pistols (such as hammerli or walther) are sometimes powered by CO2 in a seperate cylinder, it is simply recharged from a larger cylinder. Your cylinder should be the same, just a matter of having the right hose connection, it looks like a standard connection. If it's more than five years old it may be worth having it pressure tested. I used to charge my pistol at a range, that may prove a useful start point. Hope this helps

Milu,
The bottle was provided in the lightweight RSs instead of the electrical compressor for the collapsible spare tire.
I have the original compressor, so this is more like a "try at low/no cost" operation. I certainly will find someone who has knowledge in these, as I don't want to blow myself to pieces. I just don't know where to start.
There is a part number, I'll post it when I get to the correct document (left home).
Thanks! GeorgeK

I would be interested in knowing the pressure rating of that bottle. In the petroleum industry, there are a number of manufactures that make bottles of various sizes rated for well over 1200PSIG. I thought that would be a good alternative.

Actually, the pressure rating should be stamped on the botle.

1200 psi?

I have a compressed air pistol whose cylinder is charged to 2800psi. It is rated somewhat higher.

Great! 3625.943 PSI should give one a number of inflat events. What is the size of that bottle (Volume STP)? Approximate diamensions should get me close.

Thanks,

Souk

PS> Please do post the part number.

Souk...
I just saw this old thread...

You don't think BOC ( British Oxygen Corp) is over there?....in Europe?

Yes they are...as is our other competition...Air L'iquide ( French..."Liquid Air")....

But of course the *best* industrial gasses are from ( ahem) ..Praxair....we're worldwide, too !!

Plus our stuff is non-lumpy ...

Send a message via AIM to 82SC
go to a self-brewing store
(make your own beer)

they fill bottles all the time...usually with CO2
just make sure they know it will be sitting in a car all the time...cuz sometimes the car int can get so warm it makes the air expand and can be hazardous...there are saftey valves they can install so that if that does happen air leaks out and doesn't catastophically blow up

Why would you want to fill this with CO2? Dry nitrogen would be much more appropriate and is not a greenhouse gas.

Phil
