Question Mirror Lens

I know this is relatively simple, how do the mirror lenses come off? I didn't want to pull them off, i was afraid i might break them. Both of my mirror flags are loose and shake when i drive. Also, i wanted to remove the large rear reflector that displays PORSCHE. I wanted to try to clean with in the reflector because my Dad thinks there are finger print smudges on the inside of the lens; and because he is at that age he constantly reminds me of this.

Thanks!

Mirror lenses come of by inserting a small screwdriver in the hole on the bottom of the mirror housing and moving the locking ring too the left or right. Then the glass simply pulls off.

If the mirrors are shakeing the mirror base is probably loose, to fix this adjust the allen head bolt that attaches the base to the car.

The PORSCHE reflector is probably the original that was on the car. The symptoms you describe indicate that the factory reflective backing has probably deteriorated from being exposed to grime and oil there is very little that can be done to fix the "Smudges" other than to paint it with some metallic chrome paint.

There are actually two types of mirrors. You 80 probably has the kind with the pins and not the rotate release.

Check this out:

i recently replaced the flag mirror base seals, i tighten the hex bolts pretty well. They still shake like hell. I'm afraid they are going to fly of the door! Their loose between top housing and the base, right in the middle. In the Bentley manual, they show a picture with the lens off, you can see a pair of screws some what to the left of the housing (in side), i think this might be whats loose. i will try your suggestions. Thanks!

I had the same problem. Read the link above. It is probably a large inner hollow screw that just needs tightening. The down side is the mirror has to be completely dissembled. But it's easy as long as you document(with photo) how the wires go back.

my flag has a small hex bolt outside the frame next to the window that tightens up the rotating to the mount.

The flag can be pushed into the door so a bicyclist doesn't whack it. This hex does the fastening. It may become loose.

Ronin,
I don't think that hex bolt has anything to do with being able to push the flags closer to the window. It's only used to tighten the base to the door. If you take a look a the post I referred to above you'll see the bolt that handles what you mentioned. It is spring loaded bolt. See 3 & 8

Mirror frame rotates on its base. You can push the mirror close to the glass when leaving the car when parked or in a tight garage. Sometimes it'll come loose on its base. The allen/hex bolt/screw will re-tighten it.

i was just throwing more info around

Exactly, The hex screw(14) tightens the base(6b) to the door.
The spring loaded screw(16 to 17a) inside the assembly tightens the mirror enclosure (6a) to the base (6b).

just to clarify
