Question RE: Spacers for 79 SC with Cup wheels.

I have bent my rear wheels on pothole and took them to Discount to break off the tire so I can send in my rims for repairs. Upon doing so the Discount Tire guy was concerned by the large spacers/adaptors on the front. They are about 2.5-3 inch spacers, but I have none on the back, Does anybody see any concerns regardinng the spacers? he was thinking it may create issues and that perhaps i should look into suspension mods to run this size of a spacer.

the wheels are Mille Miglia which are I believe a replica of the Cup Wheels. 17"

2 possibilities come to mind
1)964 o/s Cup 1s(aka Cup design 92) have an o/s of 55mm in the 7" width. To use them on a '79SC you need ~22mm spacer. I don't like spacers, but properly done, for street use, not a big deal. Properly done means longer studs or the bolt on spacer w/ it's own set of studs.

2) if those are the correct Mille Migla wheels w/ ~23mm o/s then no spacer is used. The shop person just doesn't recognize a 911 hub when he sees one

thanks. It appears that these are spacers that are bolted onto the hub, and then the wheel is bolted onto that spacer with separate bolts. So I should be OK then it sounds, thanks again!!

I would add that hub centric slip-on spacers over longer studs is perfectly fine for the track and far better than bolt-on spacers with a second set of studs that the wheel then bolts too. some track groups don't allow bolt-on spacers.

The 930 came with hub centric slip-on spacers.

Those are adapters. Spacers are just spacers, they don't bolt to the wheel, just fit over the studs. They move the wheel out. You need longer studs for the spacers but not always with adapters.

Hub centric on either is better, as it takes load off the studs.
