Windshield Installer Source in Frederick, MD

Does anyone have any experience with any of the windshield companies in the Frederick, Maryland area? I will need my front windshield replaced and the rear glass re-installed in a few weeks.

There are several good companies, I'm just looking for one that may have "that guy" who knows the tricks of a 911 install.

Thanks,

Karl

Hey you and me both! I got to replace my Targa's front windshield due to a crack, and I'm not sure if the locals know how to deal with it. However, I'm going to ask Carriage House Automotive since they do some Porsche work or at least they used to. Check them out at 301-694-8030 they are located at 18 Wormans Mill Court behind Routzhans Furniture. Good Luck.

Have you guys thought about doing it yourself? Front windshields are challenging, but eminently do-able. Targa rear windows, to be be polite, are more problematic, but they can be done by the hard-core DIY'er.

Here's a couple links to get you started.

Front Windshield Seal Success

Targa Rear Window Removal -- Observations and Questions

Also, do a search on YouTube for episode 4 or 5 of the British show "Wheeler Dealers" Porsche 928 project. The mechanic, Edd China, demonstrates a roped-in window seal/glass installation. It gives you a decent idea of how it's done.

Hey Brian, thanks for the links. I did thougt about it but I really have little time work on my ride as I would love to. Small stuff is ok, but this type of project takes time (not a lot) but if you want to do it right, you want to know what you are doing.

If you're thinking of a DIY, I'd be happy to lend a hand. Never done this particular job, but I'm mechanically versed and I live in Myersville. It would be great to meet another Pelican in Frederick.

Thanks for the offer - careful on what you offer because I have a 911 in about 100 pieces right now!

I would do it myself, but I need to replace the windshield anyhow, so the labor is essentially free when buying the glass from an outfit like Safelite - only $261 installed (plus a new gasket).

It will be nice to finally be back on the road and meet up with some local pelicanites.

There is a really clean 69 911S Targa - cream color - in Jefferson, but I have yet to meet the owner and I'm not sure if he is on this board ever.

Follow up... Had Safelite install a new windshield and they popped it in with my new OEM gasket from Pelican no problem.

I ended up doing the rear myself with my father's help. Went fine with the exception of that d@#$ f@#!$ing aluminum trim kept popping out of the slot as we installed. Had to do it several times and it still isn't perfectly seated, but we got a good seal all around. Defroster wires weren't fun, but went ok and just took my time.

BTW, using 1/4" braided nylon rope worked great instead of a thin cord for the pull string on the gasket.
