Carrera oil cooler in a 1973.5 911

Let me first say that I've tried unsuccessfully to do a search for this topic, I keep getting this message:

The search term you specified (in) is under the minimum word length (3) and therefore will not be found. Please make this term longer.
If this term contains a wildcard, please make this term more specific.

I have a 73.5 T with a SC trombone style front fender oil cooler. The last couple of weeks in So. Calif. have been brutal (at least where I live) and with the Air Cond. running, my oil temps have been higher than I want. (215 to 220)

I've been contemplating the addition of an 87-89 style cooler with a fan.

Has anyone completed this kind of a project and if so, did it cause a substantial drop in oil temp's???

Also, any alternatives to using a Carrera oil cooler?? If my assumption is correct, the oil lines use basic AN fittings (Possibly -12) and making the attaching oil lines is no problem.

I've used Mesa 96 plate oil coolers, with a 12 v fan on dunebuggy projects with great success and I was wondering if I used this, along with a fan and a fabricated rock shield if it would benefit my oil temp's?

Any help in this department will be greatly appreciated

Are you running synthetic oil,I dropped about 10 degrees overall switching to Mobil 1 5-50 from Castrol GTX 20-50.The 20-50 Mobil is hard to find where I live or I would be using that.I have the Carrera cooler in front but no fan and I run around 180 or so but much cooler climate here in the Pacific North West.

The Carrera cooler can indeed be installed. You will need the cooler, a seal, a stone guard, and some brackets. This will provide the best cooling short of a front mount cooler. The other alternative is to install a 28 row brass cooler. This is more efficient than your current trombone, and is an easier install. It does not require any ducting, etc, which the Carrera cooler needs to be most efficient. The 28 row is almost a straight bolt up, although you can install the Carrera cooler w/ a fan and switch (either manual or temp activated), which gives you a bit more control if you get stuck in traffic.

Here is a Carrera install thread:

The battery box seems to be a constraint when thinking of adding the Carrera cooler with a fan. Without a fan, it's very workable. Anyone get a fan in there without cutting out the early car's right-side battery box?
