G50 Console Delete

I really like the interior sparseness of the early cars. On my 1988, the console where the shifter and A/C controls are located seems, to me, to fancy things up too much.

I am thinking about deleting the A/C, moving the hazard and rear defrost switches to the dash, and then removing the console. I am not sure what kind of shift boot would work after I did this (I do like the old rubber ones - will they fit?).

I was wondering whether anyone had done this and if they had pictures of what it looks like when complete.

Thanks,

David

My 87 with no console. I thought about making a leather boot but haven't made it a priority.

Don,

It is funny, but I have a blue interior as well, so your pic also gives me a sense of what it would look like with black doors and carpet - other mods I was thinking of.

I think it would look good with some sort of boot, to make it seem more finished.

What kind of seat are you using? Is it both light and comfortable?

Thanks for the pic.

David, Here are pics of the rest of the now half blue interior.
black and blue and red RSA interior pixs

The seat are Recaro Pole Positions. Great seat, light and comfortable.

The Hargett shifter is race car option IMHO. It's butt ugly and you'd have to remove the heat controls because of the rod placement.

jbrinkley, Did the Wevo bring the shift knob closer to the driver at all? With new bushings in my shifter, I don't think the wevo improves shifting enough to justify the cost (for me anyway). If it move the knob closer to me, I might consider it.
