Question for the purists
Just got a 69 911T in October. The alternator went out last week and I finally removed it this weekend. The fan, housing, and housing strap are looking rather haggard and I was wondering what color these were originally supposed to be. It seems that all of these have been painted black at some point. The fan shroud is red if that helps. Just trying to get some input so I don't "rice" up the car. Thanks

A '69T should have a black shroud so that may have been replaced or painted. The fan and fan housing cam in a natural finish. A painted fan and/or housing are generally considered ok amongst Porschephilles unless you are a purist or are entering it in a concours in which case the natural finish is the perferred appearance.

I think the fan and ring finishes have been pretty much the same throughout the years. The ring ia natural magnesium and the fan had a protective coating on it. Neither was painted or polished. If you want to go original this photo from an old thread on this BB is as close a reproduction as I have seen. I can't seem to find the thread but you may have better luck.
