Innovate LM-1 Question

I just acquired a "new-to-me" LM-1 and am having a few challenges. Following the Quick Start guide, after going through the Warm-up cycle and the Heater Calibration countdown, I get an "Error 08 Sensor Timing" error every time. This means that I am unable to get a free air calibration on the meter. The manual states that "Error 08" typically means that either the sensor is overheating from being too far upstream in the exhaust (couldn't be the case as I am just trying to get a free-air calibration with the sensor unmounted) or the sensor is bad. Anyone else experience the "Error 08 Sensor Timing" error?

I am happy to buy a new sensor if that is the solution. I just would be surprised as this entire unit (sensor and all) look just about brand new. I guess a damaged sensor, though, is something that you wouldn't be able to detect visually.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks,

JA

I cannot address that specific issue, but I can suggest you browse and/or search through the forums on the manufacturer's web site. If that doesn't work, you can perhaps get some help from their tech support.

Apparently the sensors get killed by water (incorrectly mounted and/or improper start up sequence), shock from being dropped, or lead deposits in apps with leaded fuel.

I bought an LM-1 kit with rpm module but could never get it to work in my car. I bought their heat sink, and modified it as directed by tech support, but I think my sensor location is just too hot, and I'd have to do a lot to make it cool enough for readings. So I am selling my kit, along with the extra brand new sensor I bought. I am sure that someone with a less extreme engine/exhaust set up can use it.

Thanks guys...I did indeed post on Innovate's forum and got a suggestion to replace the sensor. The replacement sensor's are $50, so I will go ahead and try that. Thanks for the follow-up.

I've been getting the same error code from my LC-1 and G3 gauge recently, and the needle on my G3 gauge goes haywire all over the place, and then freezez in place and only a reboot gets the needle moving again... haywire but moving.

My O2 sensor is mounted at 2 o:clock in the pipe after the muffler on a 930 so it isn't being overheated but it is a possibility some water may have splashed up into the large 3" B&B exhaust pipe and got on it while washing the car.

I bought a new Bosch 17014 Oxygen Sensor from amazon.com for $54.57 shipped. Cheapest I could find it.

Today I'll hopefully get it installed.

A little off topic ... but I had the sniffer in my tailpipe this weekend and it popped out while I was running at 60mph on the highway. It bounced off of the pavement and onto the roof of my car 4 times before I could finally come to a stop. There HAS to be a better way to mount these things.

You can't beat that... mine didn't even last a year.
