Question Where can I buy sheet metal?

Guys, I'm looking to buys some thin sheet metal squares in order to help facilitate toe adjustments on the '84 Carrera. The problem is, a few weeks ago when I tried to find some, I couldn't.

Where do you guys buy thin sheet metal?

Thanks in advance for pointing me in the right direction.

Scott, call a shop that fabricates ductwork (look for HVAC contractors).
They can shear up whatever you need simply.

Have you tried sheet metal fabricators? It would seem that they may have scraps in the sizes you are looking for.

We have two different chains of metal supermarkets here locally, easy and friendly to use. I just figured every place had them!

Cheers

Scott,

Try Schorr Metal, I use to buy all sorts of metal there for the company I worked for in college. That is the place where we weighed the cars at a couple years back.

I agree with Chris. Schorr Metal is a great place to deal with. I use to buy metal there for all different types of projects I was working on. It was mostly thicker sizes then sheet metal though.

Home Depot and Lowe's sell steel and aluminum at ridiculous pricing. But, if you only need a small amount, it wouldn't be bad.

We've got a place called Metals4U, that has a section of odds and ends sold by the pound. I bought some drop .032 aluminum sheet, about 24X 48" for less than $5 the other day!! Lowe's woulda charged in excess of $30 for the same amount.

There's a great scrap metal yard in Burbank, CA (right by the railroad tracks) - forget the name, but I've had great luck getting all manner of metal stock there in the past. Anyone on here know the one I'm talking about? I think it's something simple like Burbank Metal Supply or something like that. . .

That's what I used to fabricate a piece to fill the hole where my front a/c condensor fan used to live. Had it powder coated (along with some other stuff), and it looks great.

Burbank is nothing but right by railroad tracks!

How about the nearest big intersection? I'm assuming it's off of San Fernando. I'd love to know more about this.

Great minds think alike, I did the same thing. But, I didn't splurge on PC, just black paint. This is a great example of when one of those home PC kits would be great to have.
