2.2 engine
Hey guys, I've got a lead on a '69 912 with a '71 2.2 liter engine in it with zenith carbs. The car is in decent shape with a little rust in the trunk area. It has upgraded brakes and wheels. What can you guys tell me about the 2.2 engine? What would you say is a ballpark estimate of what the car is worth with a clean title? What should I look for on the car?

I have a future project that is a '69 911 with a '71 2.2 engine and zenith carbs. This is a strong, free revving engine that is a improvement over the '69 2.0 flat 6. Mine has paint and rust issues and I got it for cheap.
I'm no expert, but I would guess it's worth somewhere between 5 and 7K if there are no rust issues. That should be your biggest concern. Get a PPI and go from there....

Wow, that's much less than i thought it would be. I thought a short hood car would be around 10k without any major rust problems. Well, this is good to know, thank you.

Get other opinions, but the valve drops considerably with an engine is installed from an entirely different model. I think it be worth more with a 912 engine.....I paid $2K for my one owner '69 earlier this year. Like I said, it runs good, but has rust issues.....

If it was a short wheelbase it would be worth tons more than 5-7K because those years are the most desired and also the engine swap would make it a hot rod which in the Porsche world is rewarded. In a SWB it could be 15K if it was really well done and nice. In a LWB early car I would say in good condition its worth around 12K but if its rough pick it up as cheap as you can and improve it for your own use.

not sure of US value but 2.2's sound 'throaty' and utterly amazing with zeniths. go for it!

the 2.2 is high compression and some think the best early motor that P AG made
but yes, the car's value drops when a non-original motor is used. Do you care? BTW, '69 is a LWB car & I am not convinced that the SWB cars are worth more than LWB early cars. |
