Thumbs down mallory hyfire

Anyone owns this ignition unit? Bought mine one year ago and its already junk.
Replaced the unit, started the engine, but now the tachometer doesn't work. Is it possible that it destroyed the tach? The needle on the tach moves just a bit, as if it wants to start but it goes nowhere.

It is very, very unlikely that your tach could have been damaged! Tach triggers from the same switched ground signal from the points as the CDI unit.

Is your replacement ignition unit same as old one, or something else, now?

mallory hyfire sucks?

Bought a second hyfire cd unit and am starting to have problems again. The car will be running then stalls. I check for spark and there's nothing. This has happened a few times and its probably going to stop working for good sooner than later.

Pelican sells a Crane product (Fireball) that a lot of people seem to like.

The symptom with an inop tach is common with many aftermarket units (signal strength is too low).

The cure (partial or 100%) is a later tach, tach adapter (transformer) and/or tach modification by a gauge shop (e.g. N.H. Speedo). There's not much user info on the Mallory gear on 911s; more user data with Crane and MSD.
