How may Ruby Red cabriolets in 1983?
I need to lighten up after the fun day with my clutch issue.
I have tried to find this info before but only got as far as how many cabriolets were sold in 1983. Can one of you "Porsche-knowledgists" tell me how many Ruby Red cabriolets were built in 1983? Or where I might actually find the info...

Yeah, admittedly, it would not have been the color I would have picked given a choice. But the history on the car and knowing the PO overcame the color (which at that point, I had only seen in pictures). Now I love it! I just wondered if there was data anywhere that showed how many of each color and model for each year were made...

I always associate Ruby Red with 911SCs. I remember Ruby Red as being one of the "test" cars that Porsche loaned to the various magazines in the early '80s, so it was photographed and shown in the mags quite a bit.
It was being used on the track by Car and Driver in a 4 way comparison against a 308, and I think a Delorean, 928, and something else, and it was rolled by one of the magazine editors! |

Well, I got an email back this morning from CoA@ porschecars.com.
I simply asked the same question as above... is there any resourcce available that would tell me how many cars in a certain color and body style were produce for each year? Here is the reponse: Shane, I am sorry, unfortuantely there is no central or archive document/database that would allow me to let you know how many 'Ruby Red' Cabriolets were made in 1983. And if there was such a thing unfortuantely I would not be able to release that information. If I can be of further assistance - let me know! I don't get what the big hairy deal would be to share the info if they DID have it. What am I missing?

I just tried Stoddards at the suggestion of someone at PCNA. Strike 2. I know this ha to be out there somewhere. A guy off Rennlist said his car came with a letter the PO received from PCNA a while back that told him how many Blatic Blue Targas were made in his model year.

Well, I guess I kind of have an answer to my question now, though it is not really the one I was looking for...
Adrian Streather was nice enough to email me and clue me in a little. Basically, it comes down to this. The number of cars produced in each available color is a piece of data that is and will not be available. The reason as I now understand it is it is because it is tied to the VIN, and if the data to determine these numbers were released, it would compromise owners identities. I still admit I don't quite get it... it seems like it would not be a hard thing for Porsche to just release data on the colors, but whatever I guess. As a side note, last night while trying to research this, I came across an ad from July in the Knoxville area for a Ruby Red 1983 911 Cabriolet. The car was identical to mine in everyway. So I know there are at least 2... Ahhh, the sweet smell of progress!

I just got an email from someone at Porsche in Germany this morning. They basically reasserted that there are no records in existence that sub-categorize the annual production numbers. Guess we'll never know for sure. Since starting this thread, I have found or been informed of 3 others, so now we are up to 4...
Oh well...
