Better a rock than the complete bridge like last year in Laval......

SCWDP911 09-08-2007 01:21 PM

Ouch... do you mind sharing the cost of a new windshield. I have not ever heard that number before and am curious...

Zef 09-08-2007 01:34 PM

Yea...but my neibor drive a company that import/export products for automotive industry...so my price will not be a good indicator...and this neibor is a very close friend of mine...so...I'm lucky to get him help me on that one.

Yup...lucky...Since 5 years, two overpass fell on the Laval highway system...One on the 19 and one on the 15...

Compared to the damage it could have caused to your hood or your head you are lucky. Windshields aren't that expensive and by the time this happens you usually could use a new one anyway. That being said sorry you got hit.

And my Ruby Red head...:)

Hugh R 09-08-2007 05:03 PM

That sucks, but you should be awful happy, considering how close it came to your head. At 60 mph, your going 88 feet/sec. A few milliseconds more and you might not be here to post about it.

Surpriused no one has mentioned it yet - there is a process I've seen done where they apply vacuum to one side of the crack and push a clear epoxy (I think) into the crack. Whe nits done you see NOTHING...if anything at all an almost invisible crescent, but it repiars otherwise windshields and costs like $30-40. If your windshield was already pecked up, then maybe its just as well you get a new one.

I got 2 of these in the last 2 or 3 weeks. One was from the rear wheel of a big SUV. Another from a big truck which had so much rocks flew out from underneather it (I think my roof was not even as tall as it's wheels).

Dan,
Any fix glass place do that method or a certain place?

AvonGil 09-09-2007 05:19 AM

Happened to me last year, only I have the windshild with an embedded antenna. $1200.

Sylvain,

First, I am glad it was not a big dent in the middle of the hood and two, I am happy to see you will still be able to go on next weeks trip in Trois Rivieres.

Cheers!

consider yourself lucky. damaged is not too bad. it happened to me on the freeway. but it was with a big chunk of 2x4X6 wood that flew off a pickup truck. i didn't see it coming until it was too late. the thing struck the windshield so fast, so hard it got stuck on the windshield. good thing it didn't shatter the whole windshield. i had to exit off the freeway to take it out. it was on the passenger side where my son was sitting and sleeping. woke him up in an instant. good thing it didn't go through. it would've been his head. windshield saved my son. whew!!!

Hey Dave...will you go with us on that ride in Trois-Rivieres...?

Porsche-O-Phile 09-09-2007 10:55 AM

Still better than the bridges in St. Louis. . .

3.2 CAB 04-06-2008 06:22 AM

Hi Syl, holy $hit man, you did dodge the bullet on that! Yes, windshields are dirt cheap, as opposed to what damage it could have done to YOU. I appreciate the background info on that. Tony.

billybek 04-06-2008 06:33 AM

Awww, that sucks!
Coming from the windshield replacement capital of the world, it happens so fast and can be quite expensive.
Calgary takes soooo long to get the gravel off the roads that it is a hazard until May..
Glad it didn't getcha in the noggin!

Gunter 04-06-2008 07:07 AM

That sucks!
Zef:
Don't you have Insurance to pay for glass breakage under "Compehensive"?

In BC, Insurance pays for damage, the driver pays $200.- flat fee for the windshield.
Same thing when hitting a deer: "Comprehensive" pays for the damage like $2300.- for the hood; Driver pays $300.-
And how is it possible for you to drive in Montreal this time of year when I have to wait another month for Winter to end?
