Removing smog system

Is there any down sides to removing the smog system off a 1975 2.0L with 47,500 miles on it?

I'm considering taking off the bracket around the camshaft pulley, removing the smaller pulley and pump, all the lines, and plugging the ports. Please share upside and possible down sides.

Thanks!

Do a search, there are pages and pages and pages. How to do it, what to use for plugs, etc., etc. What down/up sides are, etc.

Peter,
What model are you talking about? 914, 911?

I was also wondering this about my 84 carrera in as much as the canister tank condenser. On another note, why is there no pcv valve on a motor of this age?

'84 uses DME - don't mess with anything as it will upset the computer. Be absolutely certain to maintain all the emissions stuff for the same reason.

thank you pardon my ignorance, Ive never had problems with mine before now, and Ive had it for 5 years, says something about how rock hard reliable these cars are

Peter mc,

I'm guessing from your post you have a 914. You should have no problems removing the smog pump and plumbing as long as you get the correct plugs for the heads.
