While Ive got you guys cornered....
a couple of other problems with my 84 carrera---ahem--- when I use the turn signals the brights come on and I have to push the stalk down to put back the dims ( also while turning sharp corners) also the horn starts blowing when the ambient temp is below zero all by its lonesome ( not making this stuff up) last winter the horn kept sounding in my unheated garage during cold snaps, was my baby telling me daddy its too cold in here?

Rob6,
Brights coming on is common. Time to get a small screw driver and carefully remove the plastic around the turn signal. You'll find the high beam contacts are too close. With the battery disconnected at the ground strap, bend the high beam contacts away carefully. All this will be obvious once you open up things. Happens to all of them.

This is a very common problem. Porsche has all of the headlamp current go throught the headlight dimmer switch. Over time it heats up and melts or warps. The solution is two part:
Install headlight relays (search for Marus Sucro or Daniel Stern) and; Read this thread: turn signal switch quick fix pictures A search with the terms turn signal stalk will turn up many threads on the topic.

I'll probably loose my "Frugal Yankee" status for this but I would just replace the switch, use stock wattage headlight bulbs and enjoy another 10 years of reliable service.

Chris, As a tightwad yankee, I would replace the switch and install the relays. I had my switch fry even though all I had on my car were the USA Sealed beams.
