Just got my 79SC back from smog and .......
hi all,
Just got my 79SC back from smog and the guy didn't pass it because he thinks the car has been tampered. He noticed the air pump and egr missing, but the numbers were good enough to pass. How difficult is it to put in an air pump and egr valve? Thanks. |

Not sure on a 79SC, but the replacement shouldn't be difficult--only getting the parts may be unless you have them. If the system is like the earlier 75-76's, you will need the smog pump and bracket, connecting hoses, check valve, plumbing to the heads, and "injectors" that tap into the heads from the plumbing. The egr is a separate system and, again, if you don't have the parts you will need (starting from the muffler) an eg filter, connecting pipe, egr valve, more pipes and hoses to the intake.
As I said, the 79 system may be different and others will respond, but in any case the difficulty really lies with having the necessary parts available. If you're lucky, everything is still on the car except the pump and valve.

Sorry, I didn't realize there was a duplicate post. Does anyone know how to move this to the other post?
