Is there a 74 style, black flag mirror?

Hi,
My friend has a very old 911 style, 74 flag mirror in black color and he didn't spray paint it. (Sorry, don't have photo.)
Do you know if this is a special option for the old 911?
Thanks

Do you mean like this?

I'm pretty sure that the black-look mirrors were available as part of the 'chrome delete' option for 1974 cars...

Peter,
Thank you very much. That was the one I saw.
Are they very rare or worth a lot?

They are the 74 RS replica mirrors.

I believe the '74 Carrera had them stock, the other models (including "S") had the silver/chrome ones. Same with the window trim.

Here's my '74 w/chrome mirror - only driver's side, none on passenger side.

An option on the '74 Carrera
Stock on the '75 Carrera

I think...

If you wanted to replace the motorized big SC ones with these, would you have to paint/weld the holes up? This base is way slimmer correct?

Yes. 1976 was the firstyear for the bigger, motorized, body color with rubber trim flag mirrors. My '76 coupe had them. I opted to backdate the look to the '74/'75 bright flag mirror to match my bright trim. The paint shop had to weld the larger square hole for the original mirror shut, then drill two smaller holes for the new mirror. I bought a reproduction '74/'75 mirro and in short it doesn't fit right. Be careful if you do this.

P.S. Anyone know where I can buy a high quality reproduction '74/'75 stainless flag mirro with the CORRECT geometry?

I'm glad I read this post. I have been looking for a silver passenger mirror for some time. I check here first with Pelican but no stocky! I just spoke with TRE and they say they have the match to my 74' stock drivers side mirror. They are sending an email w/pictures right now. Do you remember what you paid for your black pair?

Thanks
Paul

Call TRE.

BTW: I'm not certain there was an option for a passenger's side chrome flag mirror back in the day. But I could be wrong.

From what I've learned, there was not a passenger option, at least on my 74 plain jane. But TRE says they have it in black or silver. I'm still waiting for a couple pictures from them now.

Yeah - the chrome flag mirror is so cool, and so short lived between the round style and the later (and larger) 75 and forward style. They really distinguish the '74s in the same way the bumperettes and 15-inch Fuchs do.

I have little aero mirrors sitting in my house right now that I bought from a fellow Pelican, but still don't have the heart to take off the stock chrome mirror.

I just bought a '74 original factory brochure and it shows the Carrera both ways - with the black door trim & mirrors and with the chrome. The Targa and base 911 are shown with the chrome.

Check the following:

The 911 and 911S are listed as "chrome" in the following table whereas the Carrera is shown as "black". Interesting, but I think it's reasonable to assume that if there was a black passenger's mirror at all it was only for the Carrera models.

Dan, buy an original one; I've seen two on eBay in the last couple of weeks.

The last one didn't have any bidders, starting price of $125.

I don't think the chrome passenger side mirror was an option, but OEM right-hand drive mirrors are out there.

Here's one I bought on eBay 2 weeks ago:

Have been discussing it in these threads:

I just checked here on Pelican and found this. PEL-TMP-9376 Left side chrome and PEL-TMP-9377 Right side chrome. Good price too!

I'd swear I looked for a right hand chrome mirror before and didn't find it, but here it is.

Anyone find out where to buy the black version of these mirrors? Are they anodized or painted?
