Coast Fab mufflers

I have searched and seen some posts about a couple of people running these, but no comments from the actual car owners after install.

Bill has posted that he thinks they pass sound at a lot of tracks, anyone else confirm?

I have B&B headers on my 3.4 and need a quieter light weight solution that what I currently have (M&K GT3 Style). I was thinking about a pair of the Coast mufflers....

Cheers

I have the 12" version bolted to SSI headers(heat exchangers removed). Make sure you get the Stainless Steel packing--the fiberglass packing will burn out in one event. If you have shorter headers you can fit a longer model. I don't thnk that the Coast/Burns mufflers would be quieter than the M&K. The GT3 style is supposedly not as loud as the 2 in 2 out and R models. I think you could add a single outlet on one end of your M&K and angle it down instead of back. Cap off the center outlets when you need to run quiet.

I have coast fab mufflers on my 3.2 914/6. I usually pass sound at Lime Rock. Although on some days depending on atmospheric conditions I haven't passed and been black flagged.

This is the set up before installation. I made a crossover for the car

My muffler is way louder than the standard MK 2 in/out. No comparison. Your solution would requre 2 additional outlets as apparantly the two banks do not mix in the muffler.

Cheers

Tim, how much do you think the crossover helps reduce sound, or does it at all?

Cheers

I had the M&K Shorties which were similar to the Coast mufflers pictured above. The Shorties were horribly loud and obnoxious for a street car. If you're at all concerned about noise, I don't think this is the route to go.

I don't know if the crossover helps with sound at all. I had the fittings laying around so I welded it up.

On my 911 I have an early M&K RSR muffler, which Ben made with zero baffling. It is loud. Note that I dont drive my cars on the street they are track only.

This is the solution I came with for Lime Rock. Ben supplied the cap, turndown, and baffle. I was just up at Lime Rock for two days and didn't have and problems triggering the db meter. I rev my car to 7800-8000 rpm. the stock M&K howls at those revs . The baffle cap and turn down it sounds like a street car

to be honest here is your best bet.

georges european headers to the size you like then you can choose all kinds of different mufflers and are not stuck with the design B&B has and stuck with a propriorty muffler.. Just my thoughts and the reason why we never made production conversion B&B mufflers only the few prototypes

A cross over tube helps noise abatement some. The longer and wider the muffler the less noise.
