Charcoal Canister
If this is as important to hook up as I have been told why does the parts diagram show a plug in place of the vapor rated hose into the air box.
Does anyone know if the vapor rated hose is available through this site. My canister is currently not hooked up but if it needs to be I thought the hose would be shown on the diagram. Thanks for any input |

I recently purchased some hose from Pelican. I found it in the fuel section. I think that the hoses from the canister are the same diameter and type as those from the hard lines to the air cleaner/fan shroud. I was looking for a '70, so you might try the earlier parts diagrams. I don't know if the later cars had the same canister.

The charcoal canister is part of the smog system, and its mandatory in Cal, but I dint know about the "show me" state. Its supposed to help trap fuel vapors. I dint see why you couldn't just use fuel line.

OEM-N0203621 is the part number for the cannister to intake. It is listed as 12X2.5 hose. I just took my cannister down to NAPA and found generic fuel hose that fit. I think the hose from the tank vent might be a different size (larger?, but I can't remember), although it is listed as OEM-0203612 and 4X1.5 in PET.

You can plug it or remove it if you don't need it for emissions.

Thanks to all. Mine is currently plugged and seems to have no harmful effect on the state of Missouri as of yet. The reason I was inquiring about hooking this back up is that in a prev. thread someone had mentioned that if this is not hooked up it could cause a fire.....I think this is if the tank was not properly vented.
Thanks again! |

I went to Autozone and got hose for crankcase ventilation. It should be OK for fuel vapors and plenty cheap.

I think I remember a post/reply by Dr. Grady saying it's a very good idea to keep it in the earlier MFI cars.
Not sure if it applies to the 81 CIS systems. Bill K
