Those are cast. Only the '73-'74 RS cars had a forged one.

There are three choices:
- The OE steel cross member. There are two versions; ‘65-’67 and ’68-’73. - The Forged ’72-> RS/RSR aluminum version (a race part and very expensive if you can find one). - The ’74-> cast aluminum version. There are pro and cons to each. Since this part is to the front and low, I don’t think weight or CG is an issue in most situations. The steel part (and forged aluminum one) strengthens the chassis in front. The down-side is you want the suspension to be more fragile than the chassis. It is desirable for the suspension components to yield (fail) before there is chassis damage. The cast aluminum part allows this (it is least expensive and readily available used.) A desirable feature of the two aluminum components is there is more room for fuel pump and fuel filter alongside the cross member. As any engineering situation, there are pro’s and con’s for every set of parts. Best, Grady
