Talking Cheap replacement for a/c vents

Hi everyone.

I was looking for the a/c vents for the bulkhead vents for my 1972 911 Porsche. I read various forums about ideas from were I can get those vents. I visit pages like Scott's Independent, Griffiths Air Conditioner, Performance Aire, etc. And the only one that have the original "dealer" style a/c vents was Performance Aire for the price of $36.46 each. I think that price is too high for a single a/c vent. This motivated me to search the internet. I found a web site that sells a/c vents and other parts for muscle and hot rod cars. This site have replacement vents in differents sizes. I do the following: I measure the "dealer" style vents and see what sizes of vents they have. I found an a/c vent that is the same size of the "dealer" style vent for the price of only $10 bucks. I order 4 vents and I receive it. There is a little modification that you can do to increase the air flow or you cant do it. I too simple.

Firts go to http://http://www.springfieldstreetrod.com/HTML_Files/Air_Conditioing/AirConditioningAccessories.htm and find the a/c vents section scrolling down the page. The vent that fix perfectly to the "dealer" style bulkhead is the 49057-VUL and it measures 4-3/4"X 1-1/2". One you found it, buy it and when you receive it, you can do a little modification to increase the air flow. Take the vent and with a knive cut the glue (it appear to be glued with crazy glue, and is a little hard, so be careful to cut a finger ) between the hose connection housing and the grill housing. After you cut the glue take the hose connection housing apart and take the grill housing and put in your a/c bulkhead vent and enjoy the cold directional a/c flow. This photos can help you.

I take this photos to help you to take an idea of the procedure of the modification. I'm not a professional photographer, I'm a weekend mechanic that enjoy the grease and dirt.

I think this can help you in some way. Enjoy it!!!

Porsche Crest Replacement a/c vents - Update/Question/Thanks

Good afternoon everyone. I have a broken center dash vent and have been trying to locate a cheap replacement. I saw this old post but the link was no longer any good. After some searching I found out the website / link had been changed. Here is the new link:

http://www.springfieldstreetrod.com/HTML_Files/Air_Conditioning/AirConditioningAccessories.htm

I was curious if any of you that are smarter than me (all of you I'm sure) think I could not only replace the center vent that I have but could I mount one on each side, below the useless skinny vents (85 911) and hook up hose to each one to improve the air flow. I know there are companies that sell these pre-made but are mucho $$$$$.

Thanks to Wayne and all of you on this forum for always helping the less mechanically inclined to be able to have / drive a Porsche without being wealthy.

Best regards,

One of my upcoming projects is going to be directing the airflow behind the "bowtie" into some venting that will be more usable and/or efficient than the stock setup on my 82. There's alot of useful vents and the like at www.vintageair.com
