Excellent - thanks! I do have a very basic metal chop saw for cleaner cuts. So how did you weld the stainless tip to the non-stainless pipe?

Has anyone done this with dual in , 1 out muffler? I have SSI's on my 82 and my stock Dansk muffler is starting to go. Just wondering as i need a good cheap solution.

I just did it. I didn't weld all the way around the tip - there's a good amount of overlapped pipe inside the tip and a 'seal' isn't needed. I just did 3 heavy tack welds so that I can cut and re-position it in the future if I don't like the placement. I don't have stainless wire, either, so the welds will rust along with the rest of the piping and muffler. I've done it this way before and it holds up surprisingly well, even here in the rust belt on my winter cars. I just paint it all and I can usually get 5+ years without serious rust issues.

With the 911 generally hibernating in the winter, I think it will be fine for a cheap muffler setup. Doing it all with stainless and welding it properly with the right gas and stainless wire would certainly last longer.
