Oil consumption...or lack thereof

I'm starting to get worried !!.. in 2k miles my '88 has yet to use/leak a drop of oil..???. It's getting to the point that I'm starting to suspect that some p.o. may have switched the engine for some Japanese look alike.. lol.
Granted, the engine had a complete top end rebuild 5 years and 2.5k miles ago but but it's kind of unnerving to look under a P-car and not see any moisture. I just don't feel like a member of the "club"...maybe I'll paint some oil spots on the garage floor just to feel better.

Mine does not use any oil either - strange when you come from 400 miles a qt - almost a qt a fill up to zilch.

Before my rebuild, I would burn a quart every 500 miles. At the track, sometimes I would drop a couple in. Since then, I'm lucky if i need a quart the entire season. Sounds like they used the right valve guides in your case.

Same here. Stock, never opened 3.2 85 with 90k miles. Uses perhaps a quart between annual oil changes and around 4-6k miles. That is approximately 10% of what the factory quoted as normal!

If you don't put any in, none will leak out!

Mine's about 1qt / 1K miles. My Bug way back when started 'making' oil. A few weeks after an oil change, it was a quart high. Figuring I just spaced out (there may have been some alcohol involved) during the oil change, I drained out a quart. 2 weeks later, again a quart high! Drained that out too. You'd think I clued in by then, but no.... kept driving. Another extra quart appeared! Oil sure started smelling funny. Then the car started sputtering intermittently. As it turns out, the fuel pump diaphraghm was leaking, the weep hole was plugged, and I was dumping gas into the oil... lucky an errant backfire didn't produce an A-team like explosion...

Hey

I have a fresh, less than 10k, rebuild on mine with everything new and improved taken to 3.4 liters, new valve grind, etc.

I used 3/4 a quart every 300 miles. I drive like a bat out of hell and get no smoke when I lift the throttle at 6k rpm. No leaks, no runs, no errors. Just one thirsty engine.

It's been speculated that the 1 quart usage per/pick yer mileage is based on HIGH speed autobahn use....my 3.0 never used a drop, the 3.6 on occasion will burn oil. But it's inconsistent.

Hey, didn't your Mom tell you it isn't nice to brag, JKD.

So it is possible not to burn/leak oil.

My next fix is an upgrade to the Turbo valve covers on the driver side, it tends to sweat oil on long sits.

My 3300 mile trip to FL in March only required 1 1/2qts of oil for the entire trip. not too bad...

You're in luck, my wealthy uncle just died and I inherited a large sum of money...however, due to the high taxation of foreign nationals, it will cost me 70% and several years to collect it. If I can have it collected by an American citizen, no taxes need to be paid and it will be released to an American bank account within 3 days. Mail me your check for $2000, account info, name and social security number, once I have that info, I will have the funds deposited to your account...approx. $65000 usd...for your help please keep the original $2000 and an additional $6000 and send me a check for the balance. You must do this quickly as the funds are in escrow and must be transfered within 15 days.

After recently replacing an oil line + the chain cover gasket, I quickly realized that the 1/2 quart (per 3K miles) she appeared to "burn" was merely seeping out over time. My baby hasn't drank one drop of earl since. Fingers crossed that it stays like that.

I'll be happy to send you some of my leaks. I think I just found a leak in my speedometer last night. The radio and fog lights have been dripping for a while.
