Distributor 231 159 007 Question - What the heck kind of ignition is this?

I just bought this 69S distributor on ebay and am extremely confused as to what kind of electronic points replacement this is. It is not Pertronix, but I have heard of some sort of electronic points replacement option in the 60's. Is this it or can someone help me understand what this is. Also, what electronic "box" does this hook up to? Standard 3-pin CDI? Help, I am confused!

Hopefully, these pictures show it adequately.

Scott, that is an Allison/Crane Fireball XR700 ignition. It uses an LED and a shutter with six slots in it, and the timing is adjusted by loosening the screw and moving the pickup. It must be connected to a small black box with fins. I sold mine a while back, I like Points.

From my Classified ad

Installation instructions here: http://www.cranecams.com/pdf/90002000a.pdf

The wires on this unit are a different color than what is given in the installation instructions.

Red wire = coil 15 (wire from ignition switch also goes here)
Black= coil 1 (black/purple from tach also goes here)
Purple = chassis ground
Grey cable= 3 pin to optical trigger

forgot to mention that there are no markings, so I cannot tell you who made it. Also, the disc on the distributor shaft has 6 slots evenly spaced. Also the little black square that attaches to the side of the distributor has a slot that the disc passes through. This slot has an LED style light on the top and bottom of the slot to "read" the disc slots as they pass through. Make sense? they seem to be acting like photoelectric eyes or something like that. There are three wires coming out to that three pin plastic connector - black, grey, white. Any ideas?

You can run this without the black XR700 box to power your CDI in the 69E or 71T listed in your sig. The output will be a 12V square wave similar to the signal from the points.

Black - Ground
Grey - 12V
White - output - connect to black/purple trigger wire.

This should also work with the tach. You can download a manual from the Crane Cams website.

John, wow thanks for the quick reply. So, does this piece have any value?
