Mid-Year ride hieght

My 77 2.7 rides at 66.5 cm(26.2") Right Rear & 67.5 cm (26.7") left rear. The tires are 205/65 15. It looks a little high to me. see picture. Any comments on: A) What the "factory" hight is. B) What may be better. Thanks.

It could be the road surface in that pic, but it does look "raked" too much. I think a half a degree to a degree overall is desirable. Some folks interpret that as a half an inch. However, you can't measure that half inch at the wheel arches because they are not the same height from the ground at dead level. You difference in side to side may be the result of the car having been corner balanced which will do that sometimes. The weight of each wheel is more important than body symmetry.

With your tires I would try a rear ht setting of 25" That is close to the height of the tire as it sits on the road. I would then set the front @1/2 to 3/4" higher than that. I think this would work well w/ your tires, give you just a little of a nose down attitude, and coincidentally is what Bruce Anderson used to call Euro height. As Milt says, corner balancing is another matter.

Your car seems to sit at optimal euro ride height already. Take a look here at what euro height is in case you're wondering:http://coochas.com/brochures/Resources/911SC-1981.pdf Joe

Joe, I think that was a US brochure (note SAE horsepower spec). so the heights were raised to meet US bumper regs. Dagriff's tires are also a little tall, as they are about 25 1/2" dia, whereas stock tires were 25 1/8".

This car is 24" in the rear, 23 1/2" in the front, it sits on 16"s but the tires are a lower profile. The 1/2" difference in left to right is a good thing, mine is the same way. As soon as you sit in the car that 1/2" difference goes away and it is level when you are driving. Mine was driving me crazy too, I kept looking at it and wondering why the plates weren't level. Then I put a level on the bumper and noticed the car leans. Look at your rear wheel well while getting on the drivers side doorsill, you will see it go down about that much. I am usually driving in my car alone so it is level when I drive. Luckily my wife weighs less than I do so when she is in the car it still levels out, just not as much. I could be wrong though and just trying to justify the fact that my car sits crooked, I don't know. Sounds good to me. Here is a side shot, easier to see. Sorry, forgot to say mine is a RHD imported from the UK (interesting story there, I will write it up soon) ...... So it's higher on the wrong side! Paulporsche says my tires are larger than stock? My calculator says that 205/65 15 is actualy 1.66% less than the original 185/75 15. "bugger all on a big ship" as they used to say. Last edited by dagriff; 09-27-2007 at 08:13 PM..
