If I made a cut like that in a car that was that pretty to start out with I would probably need a bucket by my side to throw up in -
Nice work - have you done body work before? |

For others, like me, where I am glueing these qtr panels to the metal, I need to leave at least 2" of area for the adhesive. I did not get the brake ducts that go there... not for now at least... that will finish the look of that big side opening... I have left over flat pieces of FG from the front air dam/splitter (ahhh that flat piece of FG that goes under the front bumper)... plan on cutting those to serve as the bottom and top to finish off the opening. (See red lines in the second photo) http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/57...photo01mod.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1192116210.jpg I also decided not to remove the window to install the panel... I cut the FG panel instead. I will blend in the part to the side metal instead. I still have to remove the window for when it comes time to paint... |
Sites like Pelican and the people that contribute to these threads is the reason why I can do this... every thread documenting a transformation, the threads of folks going over paint process and body work hints are of enormous value to a newbie like me.
I even got emails of people here sending me advice when I injured my knee and willing to lend me electric icepack machines for a better recovery… Or the amounts of photos I got via email from folks that wanted me to do this right… showing detailed photos of inside the fender mounting points.. like the ones from Win Van den Berg RSR or the ones from Bob (Bobaines) of an RSR he had in his shop… It is a great global community sharing experiences and helping each other out… that is what has given me (and continues to give me) the courage to tackle this task. And yes, this is the best therapy in the world. Having a lot of fun doing it. |
The project is looking great! And you are definitely a brave soul!!!
The picture above of the finished body will give anybody incentive :) Keep up the good work! |

I think that the only thing I will not do is to try to paint the car myself... Initially I was thinking of also doing that... but I have decided to leave that to a professional. |
