Agreed. Interior looks good. At this point you know you'll end up putting a turbo on it. Its inevitable.

Well... it is done... I have reached the point of no return... may the Porsche gods have mercy on me...

Well... you and me might have to swap screen names if this does not come out well... :D :p

If I made a cut like that in a car that was that pretty to start out with I would probably need a bucket by my side to throw up in -

Nice work - have you done body work before?

No......

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/suppo...eys/yltype.gif - I am a computer engineer/geek... but you know what they say... there is nothing more dangerous than an ignorant with initiative... even worse, one with a air cutting tool...

That's funny. I'm curious to see how you are going to treat the openings in front of the rear wheels in the new fenders. I see in your photos that you left some of the original metal behind the holes. Just curious how that's going to work out - and by the way. . . it's just a car/hunk of metal when it comes down to it - ignorant or not, you're doing a great job and it looks like you're having fun to me!

Tom

I looked at a lot of photos... a few folks would cut all around the door border, side window, etc... I could not do that since I needed some metal behind the side sill/scoop for the air channels... my FG parts do not have that wall

For others, like me, where I am glueing these qtr panels to the metal, I need to leave at least 2" of area for the adhesive.

I did not get the brake ducts that go there... not for now at least... that will finish the look of that big side opening...

I have left over flat pieces of FG from the front air dam/splitter (ahhh that flat piece of FG that goes under the front bumper)... plan on cutting those to serve as the bottom and top to finish off the opening. (See red lines in the second photo)

http://forums.rennlist.com/upload/57...photo01mod.jpg

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1192116210.jpg

I also decided not to remove the window to install the panel... I cut the FG panel instead. I will blend in the part to the side metal instead. I still have to remove the window for when it comes time to paint...

wachuko 10-11-2007 07:34 AM

Sites like Pelican and the people that contribute to these threads is the reason why I can do this... every thread documenting a transformation, the threads of folks going over paint process and body work hints are of enormous value to a newbie like me.

I even got emails of people here sending me advice when I injured my knee and willing to lend me electric icepack machines for a better recovery…

Or the amounts of photos I got via email from folks that wanted me to do this right… showing detailed photos of inside the fender mounting points.. like the ones from Win Van den Berg RSR or the ones from Bob (Bobaines) of an RSR he had in his shop…

It is a great global community sharing experiences and helping each other out… that is what has given me (and continues to give me) the courage to tackle this task.

And yes, this is the best therapy in the world. Having a lot of fun doing it.

The project is looking great! And you are definitely a brave soul!!!

The picture above of the finished body will give anybody incentive :) Keep up the good work!

I probably have a folder of your project in every computer I have... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/pray.gif . I am building the courage to try the center filled mod you did to your tank... Your car is a work of art and an example of how things should be done... amazing car.

I think that the only thing I will not do is to try to paint the car myself... Initially I was thinking of also doing that... but I have decided to leave that to a professional.

No progress... :( life and work took over and the car has been sitting pretty in the garage.

I should start working on it again next month. Need to finish taking the measurements for the wheels...

I can't afford the decals... lol

wachuko 02-13-2008 01:24 PM

Well.... holidays, work travel, and honey-do-list has kept me away...

I even had to redo all the measurements for the wheels...

A few photos to keep this alive while start working on it again...

Part of the reason to measure again is that I was not keeping the hub at the same height... remember Pythagoras' Theorem? Anyway, finally got the right numbers and sent them to Jeff Alton ( the folks that are building the wheels). Going with Kodiak racing wheels.

If you're not familiar with Cleco fasteners it's a great way to temporarily hold two pieces together when fitting your panels.

Clecos have been used for aircraft sheet metal fabrication for years. They're cheap and utilize a 1/8" hole with a lot of holding power. Larger diameters are available.

Great project, thanks for sharing your work...

wachuko 06-13-2008 07:31 PM

Planning on using 335/35ZR17 for the back and 275/40ZR17 for the front...

He did. :)

A few more... these things in the rear are wide! 14" from border to border.... I don't think 335/35-17 are going to do the trick...
