weber -rebuild
I am planning out a bunch of work for this winter and was looking over my weber 40's, I have some play in the throttle shafts, and wonder if this is worth farming out to a pro?
-I have never re-built carbs and am up for tearing them down to do the basics, but if the throttle arms are worn, does that mean, -time for new carbs? -re build by pros? If so, who do folks recommend, IE shops to do this kind of work?, and what would one expect to pay for a full re-build? |

I sent my carbs into Bieker last spring for the rebuild, as I had some play in the throttle shafts. I was pretty happy with the end product, couple of things I learned from doing this:
- Check your jetting and write down what you have (mains, idle jets, emulsion tubes). He rebuilds everything to stock, so I found my carbs ran pretty lean when I got them back. This was good to get me thru emission testing, but we all know how our cars love to run rich. Plan on rejetting the carbs, or playing around with jetting / emulsion tubes when you get them back. It's not like you get them back, bolt them on and your car runs like a new car. You still have to spend a bit of time tuning, balancing, etc. -I was very happy with the job he did, they came back looking brand new, bead blasted and painted. Looks great. Took about 6 weeks, so don't expect it to be fast and plan accordingly. My car runs WAYYYYY better now than it did before the rebuild. Smooth all the way from 3K to 7K, idles great, starts great. Well worth it in my opinion.

Thanks for the replys,
-The links I found searching kept showing the Motor Meister carb kits...and I was getting scared, -but it sounds like folks have actually been pretty happy with their kits -as compared to their motors...? -either way, I am likely to send my stuff out west for re-builds. |
