That you either need to get a better scanner or just manually type the numbers cause I can't read a thing

I thought that I would also add that I have no Cat and Dual in/out exhaust.

If we could get some tuners to chime in this could be a great place for some of us less adept tinkers to learn about gasses etc.

I'd like to add an observation/question to this. If his CO is only .5% w/o a cat, isn't that running extremely lean? Souldn't this be more like 3.5 w/ no cat? I realize that he may have to lean it again for emissions testing.

Paul,

But my CO is just barley a pass on the idle test.

These are some of the things I and I would have to assume others are confused by..

0.5% CO is ok on the dyno (40km/hr, simulated 3% grade). Since the HC is also really good, the ignition is in excellent condition.
It is the idle mixture that could be leaned out slightly. Is there an adjustment that can be done that will only affect the idle CO and not the part throttle mixture? What did you do last year to bring the CO down from 5% to 2%? 1-2% is a good target.

For future reference, you should always ride along in the right seat when they do the test. If they say you can't, you can. Once I was told their insurance doesn't allow this, to which I replied that my insurance does. You should be watching the engine temp. Too hot, the loaded CO can go up. Once you have some past temp readings, you will know if things are different. Also, ensure they do the test in 2nd gear. Many of the worker bees at the testing stations like to do it in 3rd gear, lugging the engine, causing head temps to rise, causing significantly higher CO. If the guy insists, just let him. Then if you fail, talk to the station manager and demand a free retest in the proper gear. Aircare head office specifies the test must be done in 2nd, no exceptions. Also watch his right foot. If he's sawing away at the throttle you are doomed to fail. It is extremely important for them to maintain a steady foot.

I also notice your engine size is listed as 3.0 liters. In reality, your true engine size is 29XXccs, rounded up to 3.0 liters for advertising purposes. When you are at the testing station, tell them to change it to 2.9 liters. Aircare allows you to truncate the displacement, this is totally legit. In doing this, you will gain a couple of ticks of headroom on either the HC or CO, I can't quite rememeber. This trick was told to me by one of the guys at Aircare HO. The weight also affects some of the cutoffs, although I don't know if your weight listed is correct. I have a friend who has a VW Karmann Ghia and his car was erroneously listed as 1200kg, a full 300kg more than the actual weight. By correcting this error, he gained 20% more headroom on his cutoffs, instantly turning a fail into a pass.

Hey, those are all some great points.

NOW, here is the wrench on the 2nd gear test.

Al S showed me one night that some od my injectors were not spraying properly.
Especially at about 3000.00 rpm that they did the test..
At this RPM a few of them were spraying, not atomizing.

I was planning on changing these as I have bought new ones. just not the two sets of seals yet.

I just took the chance on Aircare the other day because it all felt good.

WHAT DO THESE INJECTORS EFFECT WOULD BE ONE QUESTION.
THE OTHER QUESTION IS, HOW DO YOU LEAN OUT THE IDLE WITHOUT LEANING OUT THE WHOLE SYSTEM.

YES, SLAP ME NOW IF YOU LIKE.

I said I was geeting a handle on the CIS thing. Not quite holding strong yet.

John,

It looks like your CO @ speed was .5%, w/ a max allowed 1.65, and @ idle 3.12 vs 4.44 so I think you did better than just barely pass. Since I think JW's recommendation of 3.5% is @ idle (please correct if wrong) then you are right in there, and maybe could go just a nudge richer.

W/ my limited knowledge I'm somewhat surprised to see that your figure goes down to .5 @ speed. I'm also surprised to see that this fig can be so low w/o a cat.

I'm wondering if this is normal? I have never had my car tested for emissions so I don't know how much of a difference, if any, there should be.

I wouldn't be surprised if the poor spray of your injectors is the cause of this.

Here's the Ontario version - but with a 3.2.

Ian,

I noticed that your test indicates RPM.
BC does not.
This at least gives you a basis to work from.

Yes. Stock exhaust. Rennlister Deadeye's family owns Dufferin Mazda & their chief mechanic - a past Pcar mech - did the smogging test for me. This was my final test under Drive Clean. At some point in the future, I plan to switch to a Euro pre-muff & chip etc.

I was worried about passing - silly me - that's why I went with the Deadeye connection since I figured they could make adjustments if necessary & get it to pass.

When do you have to smog? You can borrow my cat but it won't be easy to get off. I have been thinking about replacing (cutting?) the bolts so I can remove it easily but I've never gotten around to it.
