Why does not fit - 915 gearbox to 3.2 engine?
Hi,
I need help. My mechanics say that my 915 gearbox from 1975 does not fit to recently bought 3.2 US engine from 1984. Is it possible? If so are there any technical possibilities to match them? What type of gearbox should I have for that engine? Marcin |
It just needs the notch cut out for the flywheel sensor. You can probably do a search her to find out where and how.
|
You also need to address the mechanical/electronic speedo issue, but it's pretty minor.

HI you will need the cutouts as the photo's below

I have a question regarding the required cutout - how barbaric can one be in creating this? Do you need to send the trans. to a capable machine shop (assuming this is the best), could you just hack away yourself? Is it OK to machine/cut an older trans. case in the first place?
Thanks a lot, Tom |
You can just cut it with a saw.
|
Or send it to someone who will place it on the milling machine and make a clean cut of it.

I used an air powered grinder to make the cut-outs in my 72 915 transmission. The mag cased transmissions are easier to grind than the aluminum ones. It has worked just fine. I have the cardboard template somewhere in the shop, but I would be hard pressed to find it right now.
