Installing bungees on 72 911 pockets?

I have accessed a couple of sources to try to determine how to string the bungees for the rear pockets of my 72. I am afraid I might be missing something either technically or physically because none of it makes sense. Is there supposed to be an eye for putting the bungee through on the front? Is it like the one on the back with a large hole insulated by rubber? Any help would be appreciated! I am in the final stages of complete assembly of my 72 911S and would love to get it out for a spin before storage.

Also, needed to install original seat belts. The ones in the car did not have a slot in rear panels for the reel. I am looking for a source for the plastic trim piece that covers the hole through the rear panel where the seat belt exits. Again, help is appreciated.

IIRC, there is an eye in the front that is a part of the metal piece that contains the spring loader/stop for the pocket itself. In addition, there is a hole/rubber piece as part of the arm rest that should hang down in approximately the right area. This is a 3-year old memory, though. Perhaps in the morning I can get some pics.

My job was a DIY guess, though; and worked quite well. If you string the bungee from the rear of the door to the front, start IN the door, through the first hole INTO the pocket, OUT of the next hole into the innards of the door and the grommet, through the front metal bracket/grommet, INTO the pocket (3rd from rear) hole, INTO the 4th (frontmost) hole, and back into the innards of the door.

Some may knot the bungee on the ends, but if you take some figure-8 eyeloops from the hardware store and squeeze the crap out of them, one 'eye' behind each hole of the pocket, it works quite well and is much easier to get out of if you change your mind.

Sorry if that made no sense at all.

On a thread here, or on Early S, is a photo of a plastic "figure 8" dodad that removes the need to knot the cord, looks a bit like the tensioner on a tent guy rope, only minature!! I hope that helps.

wicklow,

Gogar is correct, you should have two "eyes" through which you thread the cord. I have attached a picture showing just what he described. Hope it helps.

Thanks Folks!

I especially appreciate the picture. I am missing the front loop that is pictured. Is that a separate piece that is not integral to the armrest? I am going to have to try to source one if it is.

It is a separate piece and if I remember correctly, it is attatched to the door by a rivet and (I think) the bolt for the armrest. If you cannot find one, it may be possible to fab one as it is an unseen part.
