911 Ride Height

I was just looking at the brochures of the 911s at Dave's web site, and this one on 911SCs in particular:

http://coochas.com/brochures/Resources/911SC-1981.pdf

It's interesting how high those 911s sit. It's funny how the impact of time on memory and constantly seeing lowered 911s only changes perspective. Until I just saw this brochure, if I saw a 911SC on the road as high as those cars, I would have thought something was wrong with them! I still think there are some pretty goofy high 911s out there that I see from time to time - kind of like walking around with flood level pants

Of course my 911 happily sits at "European" ride height.

Jay

I always liked the 'Paris-Dakar' ride hight better. Particularly on the torsion bar models. Looks more natural and fits the overall design and shape.

Jay,

Personally, I never had a problem with the USA ride height for a touring/non-competetive driver. That said, I have been autocrossing, and when Jeff Gamroth lowered my car to 23/23.5the handling greatly improved but now I need to think about large bumps in the road.

From 1975-82, US-spec cars were raised to comply with the 5 mph bumper laws.

Paternie's Red Book says they were raised 9-15mm at the front and 21-25mm at the rear over the ROW cars.

Thanks for posting that link, that's really fun to look at.

But what is shown in the brochure is factory "European" ride height. US height is only 9mm ( < 1/2") higher in the rear and 15mm ( < 3/4") higher in front per Porsche Technical Specifications 76/77 Models 911, Carrera 3.0 Turbo.

Thumbs up

Yeah, thanks for that. I still say height at about the last page of that post, the side view "pencil" drawing like I used to see in R & T is about right. Just my coupla cents worth...
