Where is the battery vent on an 88 3.2??

Hello,

I have an 88 3.2 that I just purchased last week and have been going through.

Apon inspection/ removal of the battery area I found the non factory battery ( it's an energizer but it looks similar to the interstate) does not have a vent hose hooked up and was slightly leaking from that area.

There are no hoses to be seen in the compartment or evidence of where it should go and I was wondering where did the factory vent originally hook up to??

Thanks in advance!!!

I do not believe there was a battery vent hose. The original battery is also huge and weighs close to 60 lbs.

Optima batteries fit nicely in these things. And theoretically don't leak acid into the trunk.

I have a '89 Carrera 3.2 with an Interstate battery. Don't recall the group # but its a full size battery. It does not have a vent either. I was concerned about this when I bought the car a few months ago. It turns out that these battery's are not vented.

Thanks for the info... from what Ive seen by searching around there was not a factory vent.

To be honest I really dont want to clean up that battery mess or ever worry about it again so I'm gonna go ahead with the optima battery mod. Im actually going out shopping for a cutting board right now!

If the battery doesn't have a special vent hose, look for a tiny hole in each vent cap. Six reasons why any 911 owner should delete this type battery from their car.

Hey guys I just went around to the local pep boys and advance auto parts and none of the optima batteries ( 75/35) I saw had the 4 holes in the bottom base for mounting. Am I missing something here??

A 5/16" drill bit will fix the lack of holes very quickly.

Edit: Drill from the bottom so you can get a clear shot and so you can see where the cells are. Use big washers on top.

I put an Optima red in mine...I think they don't put out fumes...or leak acid.. at least not so far in 5+ years. I made a custom sled.. I won't post the pictures again..almost anything would be eaiser than what I did... but it came out nice IMHO.
