G50 Coupler slop..

Can someone shed light on the factory settings on the G50 coupler?

I am upgrading the shifter bushings and while inspecting the coupler noticed the fore/aft movement seemed to pull at the rubber bushing too much.

All the parts look perfectly clean with no wear but I amd wondering how much play is accepted and if I need to tighten the two bolts at all pictured below?

I searched extensively with no specific discussion to this on the G50.

Thanks!

Mine has similar slop in it. Looked to me like it was intentional. I could be wrong but I think there are steel spacers around those bolts - I don't think the slop can be reduced by tightening them.

I am not familar with the G-50 shifter coupler, but I know that WEVO has a replacement fof G-50 cars that would probably address that slop....I know it does in regular 911's.

From the WEVO website:

The WEVO G50 Carrera PSJ does eliminate the O.E. rubber diaphragm coupler that is used as part of the NVH isolation in the stock shifter mechanism

They have ecommerce now, but I am sure you can purchase from PP just the same.

You are correct. I considered doing the same thing (tightening the bolts) and realized it wouldn't help since the spacers limit how tight you can make the connection.

I'd suggest inquiring with those who have the Hargett G50 shifter installed in their cars, how they made the connection to the transaxle coupler. I know the Hargett shifter has it's own universal joint. But I never got far enough into mine to know how the universal is connected to the transaxle coupler. I'm curious if you leave the rubber isolator in place, or if you drill out the large rivets and make a metal-to-metal connection with the shifter end link and the transaxle coupler.

Thanks guys. I guess I'll leave it be for now and finish the shifter.

It just seems too sloppy and "under engineered" but what do I know!
