What is a Rear Cassette Compartment?
So after getting my first Porsche home, one of the first things I did was to order a Certificate of Authenticity. Well it came today and I have only one question - what the heck is a "Rear Cassette Compartment" ?

What radio is in the car? I had a '77 with a Blaupunkt that had a microphone unit attached for dictating. There was a lower console that held 4 cassettes. Sometimes the wording in the COA is funky.

That unit was the predecessor to the cd changer. You would load ten cassettes in the unit which was mounted between the seats, it would then play them by remote...
just kidding, I got no freakin idea! I got nuttin.

![]() There was no center console in the car when I bought it, although I'm pretty sure it had one at one time as all the appropriate holes are there. If it is indeed just a cassette (tape) holder for the console why would it be called a "Rear" Cassette Compartment? I blame the 70's! (I guess I can do that as I'm a product of them - Spirit of '73!)

While my car is a bit newer, it still had a cassette player in it. In between the seats, to the rear of the console was a cassette holder. It held 5 or 6 cassettes and was spring loaded. You pushed a button, and the cassette popped up. I wonder if they had them back in 77....

That's the only thing I can figure, but it still doesn't explain the "Rear" part . . .
I'm stumped!

Then it has to be the 2nd one to the rear of the hand brake. I didn't know about these. And, yes, the one in the console had individual holders that were spring loaded as described above. Not just a pocket. That diagram makes it unclear.

Like Milt, I suspect your car had a holder behind the hand brake.
One of my track-acquaintances has a 930 that came from the factory with a slew of cassette holders under the dash. No, I do not mean in the console. I mean there are holders, stacked two high, the length of the driver and passenger dash. I bet you the car holds at least 30 cassettes. I bet you won't find that option on the Pelican web site either.

Well it's long gone. Kind of an odd thing to have anyway now-a-days. The car didn't even have the center console when I bought it. Found one for cheap that I'm refinishing. Now the question is if I want to keep the original green interior or change out for something a little easier on the eyes. The car is pretty much all original as it is.
