What would you do if....

Hi again,

Ive decided to take the plunge and purchase a 3.0ltr engine which will replace the 2.7ltr headache i have in there at the moment.

Should i keep the 2.7 in storage and the sell the engine with the car as a package, OR sell off the 2.7 to help pay for the 3.0.

What would be more appealing to you as a buyer?

Thanks.

Ps: Car is a '75 911 Sporto

I would sell it. Do you have any reason to think your car is rare or otherwise collectable?

Not really, its just a standard '75 911 Sporto.

But i thought it would be more appealing for the buyer if the seller had the spare original engine to go with the purchase.

Well yea i think it would be appealing to the buyer because they would look at as getting a free engine. Which they would more than likely sell themselves. Plus i dont think it would influence the buyer to buy the car any more than if it wernt included. Seems like you would be screwing yourself to sell it with the car. Just my opinion

Sell it, use whatever you can get towards the 3.0.

The VW air cooled crowd will snatch up a flat six in a skinny minute. Don't forget to post on their boards when you decide to sell it.

Hi Phil;

You might want to post on the Pelican Australia/NZ subforums, or msg JV911SYDNEY;

JV911SYDNEY recently swapped his 2.7 out for a rebuilt 3.0 through Bob Whyms Auto in Sydney.

Prob a more pricey affair than what you're looking at, but if I were in your shoes I would strongly consider looking for a freshly rebuilt 3.0 rather than just one which was purportedly running well, it'll prob end up saving you in the long run...

Back to your original topic, from what I have seen over the last few months, mid-year cars with 3.0 engine swaps seem to sell quicker than stock engined mid-year cars, and I suspect that keeping the original engine won't add anything to a future resale, unless you plan on keeping her for another 30 years
