915 shifting issues

Hi all.

I have installed the factory short shift kit and all bushings on the shifting rods.
When I am reading all the adjustment articles here on Pelican they all say there should be rotational play on the shift coupler when it is engaged in 5 gear.

I have no play at all and the gear box whines when I am driving in 5 gear.

Could the whining be because of no rotational play in fifth gear, and how should you adjust it so there should be rotational play ???

5th gear whine seems to be the norm on a lot of these old trannies.

5th is the only forward gear that is spring loaded (by the shift housing springs). Once in fifth, the tab on the shift lever rests against the tab on the top carrier plate. This prevents spring tension from forcing the shift shaft against the gear selector fork. Contact between the two may transmit vibration and noise to the shift lever. This is the play one is supposed to feel. 1-4 aren't spring loaded and thus are able to free-float similarly.
