Shift Lever Mod
I have an 86 Carrera and I would like to move the shifter rearward but I can't afford a relocator kit at the moment.
So, is there any merit in removing the shift lever and bending it judiciously? TIA |

Do this outside or in a safe working area. Use plenty of protection (welding blanket, real thick gloves, etc.) and have a fire extinguisher ready, just in case. Heat the lever away from the seats (1st/3rd/5th), then confirm. There's a limit based on how close you want the lever next to your leg or seat in 2nd/4th/Rev (915). An extension welded to the lever will bring it closer to the steering wheel but increase the throw distance. A tall gear shift knob clamped to the highest location on the lever will extend the lever a small amount. It's slight, but noticeable. Sherwood |
