Whale/Duck tail cooling?

Greetings,
1)Can someone confirm that adding a duck or whale tail will improve cooling?

2)If so, is one better at the cooling effect then another?

3) Which is the smallest of the whale tails? (Disregard duck in this case)

Reason: some tails are just TOO big. Insert pointed comment here________>

1) Yes they do improve cooling
2) you need to balance the front of the car with a spoiler as well. What year/model ?
3) 75 carrera/ weissach edition/ RS america style- all have similar surface areas and look very similar to each other (rs america style has an upper "deck" like the turbo with the sides of the rubber sculpted rather than rounded as on the earlier two styles

You need to run a front chin spoiler (oem part- our host sells them) that mounts to the original stock valence

I agree w/ Dave
1) yes
2) any of the fixed tails
3) the motorized 964/993 tail
1975-83

1975 -77 turbo w/ AC/oil cooler vent

1978 turbo aka Teatray

1984-89 Carrera

964 RSA

IROC this is the big one

I would get an all f/g RSA tail and bolt it to your stock engine cover. You will appreciate the light weight and easy care compared to the p/u lipped tails

do be sure to use a matching front spolier

I doubt there is any difference in cooling. I agree with Bill on which tail to use.

I had a ducktail. It did everything as advertised, including lowering the engine temperatures.

Then I replaced it with this tail Bill posted:

My temperatures lowered even more. Plus it added downforce at higher speeds.

You guys are da bomb.

Where does one get a fiberglass version of any of these tales?

Mr. Verberg: Is the blue one at the top the 75 Carrera tail? Whish is the RSA tail?

Yes, I will get a chin spoiler (stock). Car is a lightened, lowered SC with some minor suspension mods.

Last but not least: I saw a graph either on this board or on Rennlist of the relative lift reduction of some various tails. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks
Scott

The RSA tail and the Carrera tail are very similar ...RSA doesn't have the hole/plug for the rear wiper.
