This is one of the worst examples of taking a racing part (which is tossed as quickly as every race) and perverting it for use on the street, or periodic DEs.

I know that some are "D.O.T." approved & some are not, but are they that bad?

RWebb 11-24-2007 09:56 PM

They used to be - old Pano articles document spectacular failures (at the fittings, IIRC). The real question - is why take the chance just so you can look like a real pro racer....

DOT approval is worth something - but not a lot. If they were TUV approved, then I'd be impressed.

Those that just have to have them on their DE or street car could call Steve W. at RothSport - I'm sure they've found the very best ones. You'll still need to replace frequently.

If you show up with one of those things on your 911 at the this months MTFR, well, let me just say that I for one will run and hide!

oldschoollear 11-27-2007 12:52 PM

I thought you would like the WHOOOOOOOOOOOOP WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOP:eek:

BTW. I made some clips of my car today, I'm just trying to edit one down to fit on youtube. They will be on your exhaust thread shortly.

SCWDP911 11-27-2007 12:54 PM

cool

BTW, I like the guy sitting there explaining it all, you know, that the people should be up cooking breakfast for somebody anyway. It's like an alarm clock!

oldschoollear 11-27-2007 01:00 PM

He has it all figured out:D

Pro Race Blinker Fluid: For when you can't blink fast enough with the stock stuff.

Titanium Muffler Bearings: $199.95

Formula 1 grade Piston Return Springs

Big Foot Gas Pedal.

azasadny 11-27-2007 02:25 PM

How about lavender-scented Kuhmo tires?

fumanchu 11-27-2007 02:42 PM

How about the "Faux" wood trim kit for the gauges and glove box. Mine had this and white face gauges. Wood looks good in a Benzo, but not in my Porsche. Unfortunately, the Gauges are there to stay and really dont look too bad now that I am used to it.

rusnak 11-27-2007 04:48 PM

haha, what a funny thread!

I loved the plastic mirrors story, and the big ol Porsche sticker under the hood.

I think my worst mods are my K&N air filter, turbo tie rods, the stupid fiberglass cooling scoop in place of my front right turn signal, and my Blaupunkt sticker that says "I love (Bluedot)"...

This makes me think back to all of the '80s Performance Products crapola that I was too poor to buy and didn't want anyway, like:

DP body kit;
flush fitting (removable) tire valve stems;
frozen rotors (remember those?);
glovebox organizer;
Momo shift knob;
door edge bumper thingy with the amber reflector;
911 mud flaps;
that European rear fog lamp next to the exhaust pipe (wtf?).

Randy? Have you talked to Jeff GamROTH at Rothsport on this issue????
'nuff said...(edit) other than to say I used to have a PANO collection dating from 1966...to March of 2007. It now belongs to Evren. My memory is fading, but I recall no such article. Can you document?

i did see a 997 in jersey last night with undercar neon! good grief!

Fuzzy dice? I used to hang them on the mirror at shows...just to tweak some upturned noses. You see, I never cared about trophies much...

onlycafe 11-27-2007 06:45 PM

were they color coordinated to the car?

RSBob 11-27-2007 06:57 PM

Got to be flames....

On second thought, maybe not

Mr.Puff 11-27-2007 08:15 PM

I had to paint my calipers :*(. They were rusted.

KFC911 11-28-2007 03:16 AM

My driver's license was around $20. My car underperforms by German standards :)

+1 on the fan paint. Silly me, I painted mine yellow. On a daily driver, yellow is not a color that belongs in the engine compartment.

RWebb 11-28-2007 10:36 AM

Paul - I posted the cite some time ago -- off the top of my head try in the yellow UpFixin' & some of BA's articles/book also.

My name is Pål and I am a......

That feels so much better :) But they were red when I got them, I just cleaned them up and painted again.

Porsche_monkey 11-28-2007 11:23 AM

Best free upgrade? Kroggers avtar. Could be bigger though.

Randy...just that I was puzzled. You see, Gammer highly recommended the DOT stainless braided line when I had the suspension redone there... No biggie, I guess, since Evren can always go back to rubber if he wishes.

Oh, my nomination for fugly upgrade? Those "yeller" h-1 headlight lenses on early cars. Even the French no longer require them, now specify clear...dunno if they are under or over $200 though...I sure never wanted a set.

Yup - lots of muffler hurt more than help. The engine dyno tells the story...

OK, I have to ask, does anyone have pictures of the holes in the air box from the factory (motor sound package as RWebb refers to)? I'd love to see what it looks like!

RWebb 11-28-2007 03:49 PM

Paul - I'm surprised - even the DOT ones need to be tossed yearly (or so I'm told). I'd feel safer with TUV approved ones too....

I just have to point out that Irish Green is one of the few colors that look good (or 'ok') with the yellow lenses - black would be the other one.

Mike - a search on motor + sound + package might turn up some pics. I know I've seen them posted. No biggie as to how you put the holes in there...

Caprice:
1 a: a sudden, impulsive, and seemingly unmotivated notion or action b: a sudden usually unpredictable condition, change, or series of changes 2: a disposition to do things impulsively

I have been attempting to keep these definitions from my daughter; Caprice Price.

Personally, whilst I find the hanging, imitation male social equipment hanging from the rear bumper acceptable in flesh or even blue, I think the chrome ones are tacky.

Does the double row of black silhouette VW bugs/busses and Yugos on the front fender, fighter aircraft style qualify as an under 2C mistake? Or just plain ostentatious bragging.

I "upgraded" to these on my C2S x51. Cost a little more than $200 because of the 4 tips in the PSE, but worth every penny when it go whooooop whoooooooooo!

gshiwota 11-29-2007 01:09 PM

"upgrade"

Where should we start?

I didn't mean I didn't know how to put holes in my airbox ;):p I did a search and didn't come up with anything.

RWebb 11-29-2007 02:35 PM

I got dozens of threads using:

airbox holes sound

what did you use?

Bobboloo 11-29-2007 04:38 PM

Well, I was looking for what the factory did, so I used factory motor sound package. All I came up with was cars for sale with this option, and absolutely no pictures.

Thanks, I'll keep looking though...

RWebb 11-29-2007 09:09 PM

Might also be pics in some catalog from that era - I know some catalogs have been posted online.
