Worst "Up" - grades Under $200

We had a best upgrades thread (tho not all were "up" IMHO), so I thought a Worst thread might be fun if not technically stimulating...

I have a couple in mind but will forbear posting to see what the D-9 Cat drags in...

This list can go on forever, but my favorite worst upgrade would be painting stock brake calipers red to mimac high performance calipers.

Under $200?? You must be joking...

Man, I can't even think of a part I put on the car that cheap that didn't improve it. This should be interesting.

Billet crap for the interior. Actually, I am not big on stuff that is looks only...so all appearance stuff. Now, if it enhances performance and looks good, then I dig it.

I dont know how well this worst "upgrade" thing really applies here beacuse us porsche people dont leave things the way they are if we dont like them. In other words we just fix everything till we get them the way we like them. at least thats how it is with me. Im satisfied with everything iv done to my car. Otherwise i wouldnt have done it in the first place if it was dumb. However i did paint my stock brakes red like dimeified and it is kind of dumb because you cant even see them through my wheels

Turbonator...

Fuzzy dice.

I bought a bobble-head dog for the back window, but his head keeps hitting the glass. I had to move him to the dash and use two-sided tape.

Putting a RS decal from a 964 on the deck lid of a stock 3.2, like the PO of mine had done.

Worst upgrades

It has to be that new set of Deer Whistles mounted on my two front fenders like Japanese mirrors.

I painted both my fan and my brakes - but I painted the brakes black not red!

crap

I have painted my calipers red.

Ok, I admit that. It feels better now.

Well at least I spent less than $200.

How about putting a ''two thousand dollar stereo'' and fancy wheels on a car with old spark plug wires, needs an alignment and corner balance, has warped rotors and 4 broken head studs. Add crappy aftermarket ricer seats.

Then we drive it all summer and try to sell it as a pampered car with ''Upgrades''. Oh, and the stereo really didn't cost two grand. Ebay Special. Buy It Now.

Putting cheap a$$ black plastic mirrors* on a longhood 911/912 and having to drill new holes in the door to mount them. Then, coming to your senses and having to deal with those new holes...especially on the passenger door that never had a mirror installed there before. So now a mirror has to be put on to hide the holes and is in a spot that makes it totally useless. Dam '80's Tweeks catalogs made the plastic mirrors look so cool. I did this to a '66 912 many years ago.

*particularly the ones with the bellows

A piece of crap bs "black briaded hose" from my intercooler to my Wastegate that cracked and forced the WG to stop functioning properly resulting in my just about eating the steering wheel when the overboost switch did its job.

"Hey lets put this cool looking braided hose on there!, it's braided so it must be good"! The conversation I am imagining the PO having with someone.

A cheapo flebay "aftermarket" (read non-Steve Wong) chip for my 3.2. Dynoed the car before and after and actually LOST 12 hp!!! WTF! Gone back to stock chip with headers and dynoed at 197hp at the wheels with 93 octane. Much better.

Set of Kingsbourne plug wires for my 73. Total junk. Never again will I buy "cheap" wires (and they weren't that cheap but were under $200).

Step up and buy them from Porsche or Magnecore.
