Grady Clay is coming to L.A. October 10th.

I have been talking with Grady on the phone about his upcoming trip out here to make a purchase of a special piece of equipment. He plans to be here at least thru Sunday, 10/14 to go to Pomona. He would like to meet some of us in person at a function on Fri evening, 10/12 at a yet to be determined location. We should come up with something around the South Bay area.

I know a great Mexican restaurant named Cozymel's El Segundo that is 405 freeway friendly and big enough to support a group. If this sounds good, we will need a head count so we can get some reserved space. Or, I'm open to any other suggestions for a venue.

I will post some other info later about Grady's visit, but I wanted to get this started now so we can decide and wrap it up.

And, Pomona would be another hook up spot. He plans to be there really early at my urging given the traffic, etc.

OK, here's the list of attendees so far (in no particular order):

Grady
Myself
David
Dave
Wayne
2 Scotts (450 being the 2nd)
Bobby
Hugh
Garbonzo

That'll make two of the bar type tables outside (food is served). Plan on arriving around 7 PM or a bit later if you wish.
Grady doesn't drive after dark, so if someone is coming from the Redondo area and wants to stop by the Best Western and pick him up, that would be great. You don't have to necessarily drive him back. I could do that, or another could volunteer. Thanks.

Grady is someone I would definitely like to buy a beer, or soda if it suits him. I'm in for one or the other, David

His choice, not mine.

BTW (and not to cannibalize my own thread), I've always thought Sunday afternoons were a tough time to go to Mulholland.

I wonder if he'd be willing to come out to Willow on the 10th?

I'm pretty sure I can do the dinner on the 12th.

If I am not working Friday or if I am and finish early, I will come down.

Wanna carpool, Dave? We can take the 405's diamond lane, where it's only stop-and-go half the time. Be there by dessert.

I'll know by Tuesday. Sounds like a tentative plan. Although, I'd rather leave a bit earlier on Friday and hang out in El Segundo area.

You coming out tomorrow? If so, we are going to try and meet at 6:45. Same spot.

Dave

Porsche Crest Take care of Grady

PLEASE be careful with Grady. He will need for you guys to monitor his energy level and make sure he doesn't overdo it. He suffers every waking hour with many varied pains and health issues. He will seldom complain unless he's at a breaking point. He is fully aware of the problems for L.A. traffic and will need most of Saturday to recover before the swap meet, thus Friday is it. And above all DO NOT let his appearance affect your opinion of him. He has to use many ways to cope with his physical challenges so he doesn't work too hard to "clean up for company". Grady is Grady.

I've had the delight to spend a lot of time with Grady over the last eight months or so and he is a national treasure for Porsche fanatics and racing crazies alike. Every time I get together with him by phone or in person, he suprizes me with yet another event in his life or person he met. Be prepared for some amazing stories and enjoy meeting him. Just make sure he can make it through the rest of the trip. By the way, he'll have a rental car but you guys should take turns driving him around. That will really be appreciated and the drive will be worth the time and gas. Trust me.

Thank you for the insight. I knew something about his treatments, but not much. I know he has canceled plans to come to L.A. 2-3 times before because of doctors saying no way, so I know he's really looking forward to this. And, he has his "purchase" to look after.

Jack, I think that sums up the situation regarding Willow. Besides, his flight isn't due in real early, although I don't have the actual arrival time. I don't know how he plans to spend Thurs or Fri during the day, but I will be around most of both days to help out in any way I can.

I'm not planning to go to Pomona, so if some others want to jump in there, please do. It's a long drive out there from the airport vicinity and an arduous affair unless one stays pretty much in the Porsche areas near the front gate. I advised Grady to be there by 5 AM (in the dark and mild cold this time of year) because of the tremendous traffic jam that occurs by 7 AM. I hope this isn't too much. It is for me; I gave up on the place 2 years ago.

Wayne, it would be cool to see the new car anywhere.

JLGarbanzo, welcome to SoCal! Yes, there are quite a few of us in your general area, although I'm not too sure if there are any of us in Newport Beach.
