Appbiz Carpets Installed

Some pics of the lightweight Perlon I installed over the weekend. The old 30+ carpets were looking their age.

Wow, that's awful sweet looking. My budget isn't going to allow that for a while. How much work was it? What's in the rear seat delete?

Rick, what a great job... The fit and finish look very tailored and professional. Is that a kit that you bought?

To be honest, it was very time consuming. Disassembly of the interior was the fast part, but test fitting, cutting, refitting, a little more snipping, and then gluing took the time. One has to be patient, methodical, and have plenty of time to do it right. The e-bay seller advises that it be professionally installed, but if you are detail oriented, take good notes of what pieces came off first, second, third, etc, then reassemble in reverse order, it should be easy. Total time for R&R and carpet was 10 hours. I also fixed lots of little issues, tidied things up, dyed the leather, etc, etc. I used a 3M spray adhesive with a big # 70 on the can available at The Home Desperate.

That is not a rear seat delete but a pic of a 70 era back seat. What sitting on the seat pads are the seatbelts, waiting to be installed.

MItch, thanks for the compliment. Yes its a kit containing 15 pieces. It is pretty much cut to fit, but some pieces required additional trimming, a little slice here and there to get the material to curve correctly, etc. All it takes is patience and some strong glue - hit the back of the material with spray adhesive and the surface you will be covering, for good adhesion.

Very nice install. I am going to to the same project next year. Are you happy with the quality of the product? Where did you find it?

Great job! Is that the Perlon from Appbiz? What made you pick one over the other (Perlon vs. Plush)?

I have the same set up in my cabriolet. Light weight and easy to keep clean.

Mike, similar budgets must think alike!

Since the car originally didn't come with plush, I went with what was closest to the original.

The material is about 1/2 the thickness of the original. It's lighter weight, which is good, but we will have to see how it wears. Yes it's the Perlon offered by Appbiz on Evil-Bay.

My only qualms were that it:

1. didn't have the vinyl edging except at the door seams
2. didn't have the snaps for the tunnel piece behind the handbrake
3. the reinforcement piece behind the rear seatbacks was flimsy

I solved #3 by transfering the piece behind my old seat back carpets to the new ones and re-riveting.

Otherwise the fit was really good with no blemishes.

Ever wonder why the rear seatbacks are so heavy? I discovered that they have wooden frames!
