Any tips on how to remove this?

I replacing my clutch cable and have come across two things. 1. Now I know why my pedal was so stiff, the clutch pedal spring was broken and not in stock with Pelican. 2. HOW DO YOU GET THE DAM PIN OUT? The trunion/clevis thingy, I need a tip on how to get that pin out. 101 projects say short screwdriver and tech article says long screwdriver and vise grips. What do I do with the vise grips?

Thanks,

Just did this this weekend again. I didn't need any tools. The issue is that the clip is in its own way until you move the clutch pedal back a bit. If you move the pedal back all the way, you can't reach in there.

It is shown to be pushed in from the passenger side and clipped by rotating down onto the trunion, but on my car it was the other way around. That is, it was pushed in from the drivers side and had to be rotated up to snap on.

I mention this as you want to be sure before you go attacking the thing.

Pop the clip off (up or down) and move the pedal around so you can get at the thing around the gas pedal linkage. Then just pull or push.

good luck.

I'm not understanding. Are talking about after you push the pin through. I'm not even there yet if so.

the pedal spring really doesn't help much if you're looking for a lighter pedal. it just helps to return the pedal to the top. the cable may be binding in it's sheath, or the clutch disc may be thin.

do you mean the pin that holds the pedal to the cross-shaft or the clevis pin in the tunnel that goes through the clevis? the outer spring can be installed without disassembling anything.

The spring that is broken is not the c shaped "helper spring" but the clutch pedal spring that looks like a more traditional spring shape. The part I am working on is removing the clevis clamp thing that holds the cable to the connection of the pedal cluster. I'm not getting how to remove the clamp and push the pin out.

I'm not sure if this is going to help... What I found first off is that your access is very poor and it's hard to visually see what's going on down in this hole.

The clevis pin has a right angle clip to it. You can't remove the pin until you un-sap the retaining clip that runs up the side and face of the arm. You need to see this with good light and clean the grease off of the pedal arm so you can see what you're doing.

I could take a pix of the pin and retaining clip if you need to see it...

+1 once you understand this little retaining clip, you'll slap your forehead. It's a bear to get your mind around with lousy light and the position it's in, but once un-snapped, voila!

sometimes the clip won't come out, period. to save time you can jam a screwdriver between the clevis ears, twist and pry the clevis open and just get the damn thing out of there. kills the clevis, but i have them in stock. can't spend too much time face first, down in the hole, getting cramps.

Thanks guys. I guess even after reading the 101 write up and the tech article I didn't fully understand the way it went together. I'm going to give wait now until the I get a new spring and clevis/pin and replace it all at once. Thanks again for the info and hopefully when I get in there again I'll be be able to understand the setup of those little pieces.

The spring that goes around the pedal ( 911.423.531.03 ) has, according to our supplier, been discontinued. You can use the part from the earlier cars ( 901.423.531.00 ) which is available, but three times the price.
