Post rebuild questions... 1981 sc

Hi everyone,

I have a couple of questions regarding my 1981 sc. I’m hoping some of the gurus here can provide some guidance.

I am just over 500 miles on a full rebuild. (Everything was done to the engine while we were in there, so it is a true full rebuild). So fare everything seems to be going well. It sounds and feels like the rings have sat. I plan on doing an oil change ASAP.
My questions are:
1. At what mileage should I do the first valve adjustment?
2. What are some of the most common items I should check at the same time?
3. I seem to have acquired a rattle when I’m moving (at any speed). It sounds like sheet metal or something. I have not had a chance to jack the car up and check but when I do what are some of the most likely things it might be?

Thanks in advance!!!
Arron

Check your CV joint bolts, even if that's not the rattle. You may have left something loose. Who knows what it could be until you get in there and wiggle everything during the oil change.

Check the valves again when you re torque the heads - say another 500 miles?
These adjustments probably wont change at re torqing, unlike most valves, but while you are in there...
As for the rattle - is your cooling fan aligned right?
