Rennsport Reunion Pelican Gathering, Early-S, R-Gruppe thread.
Rennsport Reunion Pelican Gathering, Early-S, R-Groupe thread.
Jeff Alton (Vancouver, BC), I and others are trying to have a Pelican Gathering on Friday evening November 2, 2007. I understand there may be an effort for an R-Groupe and/or Early-S also. Let’s make one big event. Wayne & Scott red-eye it into Daytona Friday morning from SEMA. Let’s save this thread as an ‘official’ schedule. I’ll modify it as necessary. Links should be posted to other forums. Event thread is: http://www.rennsport2007.com/ Where are there other threads? Will someone post links to and on Early-S, R-Groupe and other? This is the event schedule as of 10/25/07, 10:30 AM MDT. I’ll update as appropriate. I can only handle updating one thread so let’s keep this one as ‘official’. When someone posts info, I’ll include it in the schedule and ask the poster to erase his post. This will keep the thread simple for everyone. If anyone has ideas how to make this most successful, please post. Best, Grady

The consolidation of the groups makes a lot of sense. Also the time is great. Now - where?

We are waiting to see the potential group size, then a venue will be named.
This is a great chance to get EVERYONE together for a good time. Cheers

I don’t think any of us (R-Group, Pelican, Early-S-Forum and more) care where we get together (so long it is relatively close to the track). The point is to all get together at same place and same time.
I understand some have tickets for first drinks and such. I don’t see any problem there. The whole point is to get as many Porsche enthusiasts as possible in the same place and same time as possible. I’m trying to get Hilton Homestead Suites to provide a cash bar and ‘hors d’oeuvres’ for a large crowd. They will make enough money on the booze to pay for the room and snacks. If they don’t provide, I am amenable for anywhere else. Any hotel/convention center should jump at the opportunity. Our little Porsche gathering palls compared to the NASCAR use in terms of numbers but not gratuity. Best, Grady

Here is the thread on Early-S Forum:
http://www.early911sregistry.org/forum/showthread.php?t=17643 Here are connections for the R-Groupe (I think this may be members only). http://www.early911sregistry.org/forum/showthread.php?t=17416 I think The Event will be the primary meeting place with the PCA party Saturday also important. Of course the 956/962 Club and the 718-055-061 groupe can also have gatherings. I think it important to have an OPEN get-together. Where I’m staying wants way too much money for me to host. It seems to me some nearby hotel will offer a ‘no-host’ cash bar and throw in some food. All it takes is to ask. I understand when one of the bar/restaurant owners is also a club member. I understand specific club gatherings. What I’m looking for is a place where you only need to have an interest in Porsche and want to meet like minded people. If someone can drag my sorry ars around at night, I’ll probably attend all. I think it important for there to be a free and open place to meet. Let’s still try for Friday evening. If anyone has better suggestions, please stand up. Best, Grady

Hotels can be funny about meeting space. Perhaps we're better off getting a back room or patio at a nearby restaurant or near the beach? We'd certainly be able to get "no cost" space from a place for a "party".
As far as the PCA party Saturday night, that event was fixed from the start, IMO. I hand carried my application to the post office the morning of the registration start date and I still got a sold out notice from them. Some how, I think some of the club had early access to reservations.
