for JOHN WALKER'S EYES ONLY PLEASE:
Hey there, John
I trust you the most so i am asking these two questions directly to you. Please respond when you get a chance. My Struts. 79 911 SC, The strut inserts were not the same exact as I replaced them with. The rubber accordion was larger, and cut off at 2 bumps. I did not cut my new ones off at all and left them as 3 bumps. They (new ones)were the bilstein HD/ for the Bilstein Green housings. After the work was completed for some reason the passenger side was .25 inches higher that the prework measurements. I attribute this to a stiffer strut maybe? It drove bad, last night I did manage to turn the torsion bar screw a full turn and it dropped back to 24.75" at the fender. It does drive better but still pulls to the right pretty bad. any thoughts on why? 2nd. I noticed a slice in my left tire and apparently it seems to have made contact with the fender well at the point that I joined it to the fiberglass nose clip. I pounded that fender lip back under, but thought it very strange that it did that? Perhaps after lowering the car and sitting on bad strut inserts it let the body come down on a turn? make sense? The fender measurements are driver side 25.125/passenger 24.75 Does this sound OK? |

I am going to chime in anyways.
Did a shop do the work or you. Is it possible that the alignment got screwed up somehow. There is a reason your old rubber pieces were cut off at two bumps. As you lower the ride height of the car the shock travel decreases causing the suspension to bottom out on the bump stops. Cutting the bump stops to 2 gives a little more travel. I hope this helps. Rich P.S. I am not John but I played one on TV.

Me three...I was hoping for some complex motor issue that only John's experience could handle. Dissappointed.

Sounds like your carbs need adjusting. try that first. turn all the screws on them counterclockwise 4 full turns. that should do it.

FWIW, John does not do alignments. Not that he won't have answers, but an alignment guy would have a more intimate undestanding of this stuff, and especially if he has had the car on his rack. Alignment guys, good ones, have magical powers. Secret incantations that enlist the cooperation of the 'spirits' within your car. A crystal ball is involved, and at least one magic wand. And the Black Cloak.
If you've been messing with the shocks and the adjusting screw, then there is no mystery as to why the car is pulling to the right. Alignment voodoo is the only cure.

If you'd still like some advice from someone who's at least heard of a Johnny Walker:
Take the car to a shop experienced with 911s. Have it corner balanced (very important esp. since you've screwed with the ride height) and properly aligned. Few cars as sensitive about this as old 911s. |

If you just let the car sit in JW's Workshop with the Dead playing, it'll "fix" itself (or so I've heard
). Well, I'm going to take my untrustworthiness (although I'm dying to answer something I DO know) and let the weekend commence...have a great one guys!

It's a good thing no one else can see this thread.
BTW, turning the torsion bar/ ride height adjuster one full turn just put your corner balance outta whack.
