Thumbs up My First 911

I wanted to say hello and introduce myself to the Pelican Forum. I picked up a really nice 1983 911 SC last week. It is my first 911. I always wanted one but could not afford it when they came out. It has 102K miles but it's really like new. Previous owner won couple of Parade events for Preservation class. He also won some Ohio and local Cleveland shows with this car.

It is kind of funny story how I got this car. Gentleman that I purchased the car from had 2 cars advertised for sale in local Craigslist. 2003 Carrera 4S and 1983 911 SC. I was actually more interested in his 2003 Carrera 4s with only 15K miles. Both cars were parked next to each other in his beatyfull heated garage. It was like a showroom. It was obvious that these cars were loved and well taken care of. Both cars were stunning gray colors. So as I met the owner we started going over the 2003 Carrera. As I was talking and observing the Carrera 4S I started looking more and more at the 1983. My wife also started looking at the old Porsche. Needles to say we both changed our minds and we focused on the 83. Owner was able to provide bunch of service records. He was really proud of his Parade wins. After the test drive I was hooked and ended up buying it. Color is Gemini Gray Paint To Sample option that was available on 944 back in 83.

Beautiful '83! Welcome to the gang! Now that you have a perfect example you need a second dodgy 911 to learn on. Believe me it can be addictive! Your car is pristine and I am sure you will keep it that way. I do recommend Wayne's 101 Porsche projects; its invaluable. Cheers

Welcome! Beautiful car, looks very well cared for. Did you get a PPI on the engine?

You've made two good choices... the car and a wife who appreciates an air cooled 911. Had anyone given the top end / head studs any attention? If not, might be something to start thinking about for the future.

Thanks everybody for your welcome. This forum is excellent. I will try to read and learn as much as possible about these cars. Only bad thing is I can't drive it now due to winter setting in. Can't wait for spring.

It's 21F and sunny here in CT, just took my 78 for a nice 45 minute cruise to warm up the oil and circulate in a massive dose of Sta-Bil (Ethanol) for her on/off hibernation. 911's LOVE cold weather, if you don't have wet roads get her out there!
