In-dash CD Player

I want to replace my radio/casette player with an indash CD player (no changer). Does anyone have any recommendations? I'm mostly concerned about finding a unit that won't have problems with skipping in a 911. I'd also like something with around 40 watts/channel internal.

I have an alpine DM-7861 and it has a huge problem with skipping. I'm considering a changer to overcome this.

I installed a Blaupunkt in my 78 911 SC Targa and it works great. If you need more power, you can always install amplifiers.

Which model Blaupunkt? No problems with skips on rough road?

Bill,
I just put a blaupunkt in my 78 sc last weekend. It has not skipped once, and I have some rough roads. It only took about 30 minutes, and I paid like $150 from crutchfield. I don't know the model number, just go to crutchfield .com. And the sound improvement was great. But it still doesn't compare to the wail of the flat six.

I had a blaupunkt las vegas cd player in my 73. This model had lots of problems with skipping so i took it out. This was a 98' model so they might be better now.

Pioneer DEH-P3100, works great 45 watts per channel. Go to crutchfeild.com and check it out.

The PO of my '81 SC installed a Blaupunkt "Vancouver" in-dash CD player. When I bought the car, I thought a CD would be useless in a lowered car with stiff suspension.
Not so....when I need a break from the whistle of the fan, I pop in a cool jazz disc and crank up the volume! The player has *never* skipped a note, even on the roughest roads. (The best music still comes from the tailpipe, however).

I have an Alpine (not sure which one) player in my 911 and a Pioneer in my MB. I have never heard either one skip. Both are rated at 45wpc to each channel. Beware though, that this is a BS spec. Car stereos are typically rated at peak output rather than a sustainable (average) output. A peak output rating is essentially meaningless. Best bet is an external amp if you want good sound and decent punch.

BTW, my Alpine will not play CD-R's. If you're into burning your own (illegal of course), go with something else.

I would recommend the Blaupunkt RPD540. I have one in my 912 and it DOESN'T skip, 40 watts per channel, detachable face, and sounds great. It cost me $130 from Netmarket.com. Definately a great buy!
Still can't compare to the sound of my flat four!!!

I've got a Blaupunkt in my SC and am very happy with it. Cd's don't skip when going over bumps, pulls in AM & FM stations very well and sounds great. The big plus is not having a Japanese stereo in your Porsche (don't flame me, I have more Japanese electronic gadgets & home stereo stuff) I just like the idea of having a Blaupunkt in the P-Car.

I have a Blaupunkt Toronto which has plenty of power and hardly skips (with the tighter sport suspension and 16" wheels). Of bonus, the LCD is color-adjustable and there is no clock to keep in sync with the dash clock.

why is burning your own CDs for your own personal, non-commerical use illegal?

Sounds like a lot of you guys have used different versions of Blaupunkts with good results. I think I'll look their model line over. Crutchfield had four or five models for under $200.
