Anyone repatriate a Porsche Turbo back to Germany?

Does anyone here have any experience on taking a USA Porsche back to Germany (or the EU) to sell?

After having no luck selling my 1989 930, and given that the value of the Euro has risen so drastically against the US Dollar, it seems that it might be very economically beneficial to ship my 930 to Germany and sell it there. The Euro's value has gone up 40% over the last four years.

Does anyone here on the board have any experience with this, or know how difficult/ expensive the process is?

Does it matter what year the car it is?

Anyone have access to Porsche 911/930 values in Germany or the EU?

What would a 1989 930 with 56Kmiles (95K kilometers) be worth in Germany. I am currently asking only about 23,900 Euro's for the turbo.

Hi - I have brought in several Porsches for personal use to Norway both from US and other european countries in europe - because it safes me money -simple fact

Now - the difference from Norway/Denmark and the rest of europe is our outrages tax system on cars - so yes, year of manufacture matters - at least in our country

Every year we can deduct a certain % of the tax - if it is over 30 years old, you're home free

The Turbo and other pristine more rare cars tend to have a higher premium in Germany/Europe compared to US - do not know their tax system other than it is way lower than ours

Good luck with the sale - I just missed a deal on a GPWhite 930 -78 (soon 30.... in SD

Oh....and I usually pay around 1150 - 1200 usd shipping out from LA - Galveston might be even less

That would be well in excess of 30K Euro.

Search on www.mobile.de and www.autoscout24.de for similar cars.

Interesting;
What engine and hp? presume 3.3L, not sure about this model, but some US models have lower HP.
Are the brakescoops actually used or bling?

Paul,
Sure, Euro to $ gives you 40% advantage right now. But keep in mind that you have to pay $1200 for shipping + Insurance. Add. 19% of Value of the car in Germany for Tax and >= 7% custom fee + adjustments to pass German TÜV (Speedometer to KM, signal lights, Head lights....) + German registration and TÜV fees!
It may work with other countries but I doubt it would be efficient with Germany.

That information is really helpful e-speedster and richde! [just saw shahram's post after I made this one- thanks for the information!]

I looked through the listings in Germany for 81-89 911 Turbos, and the prices are at least 40% higher than in the USA... Which makes sense..

Do you know what legal requirements there maybe? The car is registered to me in Texas USA, but I have an EU passport. I don't speak German. Do you know of a website that tells what the requirements and costs are associated with re-importing a car back to Germany?

If I shipped the car to Germany and tried to sell it do you know what government issues there may be?

Would there be import tax even though it was manufactured in Germany originally? Are there any there more strict safety and emission requirements?

palle: (US trim 1989 turbo's produced 282hp with a 3.3L egine... I have a better exhaust system on the car, so it should be getting around 300hp. The rear air scoops are functional for cooling the rear brakes.)

Can't answer for Germany accept for that it doesn't matter where the car was originally manyfactured

For Norway - your car will be the same as they go for here +- with all shipping/taxes/new lights (speedo ok as long as you have dual readout). So then it all comes down to availability and uniqueness

When it comes to hp - usually everybody here upgrades them to 330 hp anyeays (larger T & IC + exhaust) - so no biggy

Now - if it was a -78.......

Haha - just noticed your last line in your signature!!!! I am currently on 1980 with normal miles for the year

There's usually a couple US models for sale here through the two sites I posted above. Yes, there's less power, and they sell for less, but I don't think that stops them from selling. Last turbo I saw an ad for was an early '80's and it was listed for over 30K Euro.

Ask Harald ( speedster94) he does it on a regular basis.. He told me turbos are not in much demand there ( as of 2 years ago) since the price of fuel is so high..
